Formule 1-teams houden voor zondag rekening met buien in Imola

De aftrap van het Europese gedeelte van het Formule 1-seizoen 2021 vindt dit weekend plaats met de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna op het Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari te Imola. Normaal gesproken bevindt de koningsklasse van de autosport zich in april nog aan de andere kant van de wereld, meestal in Azië, voor een van de overzeese races.

Europa is dan vanaf mei aan de beurt, over het algemeen te beginnen met de Grand Prix van Spanje in Barcelona. Vorig jaar was het overigens de bedoeling dat Zandvoort de eerste Europese Formule 1-race van het seizoen zou huisvesten, maar door de uitbraak van het coronavirus gingen die plannen overboord. En ook nu nog houdt de pandemie de wereld in zijn greep, en dus ook de Formule 1.

Zo is de Australische Grand Prix verplaatst van maart naar november en is de Grand Prix van China op een reservelijst gezet. Normaal gesproken zou het Formule 1-circus rond deze periode in Sjanghai vertoeven, maar vanwege alle reisrestricties en logistieke uitdagingen is de voorkeur gegeven aan Europa. Dat heeft wel gevolgen voor de weersomstandigheden.

Het is nog niet bepaald zomers, eerder fris lenteweer. De temperatuur schommelt komend weekend in Imola rond de 13 graden, wat vrij koud is voor een Grand Prix. Het is komend weekend bewolkt tot zwaar bewolkt en de kans op regen voor zondag is de voorbije dagen iets toegenomen. In de paddock gaat al rond dat de Formule 1-teams voor de race rekening houden met buien.

  Haha, is dat niet elk weerbericht zo. Eerst foto's van een weiland of de lucht, dan nog een paar foto's van mensen op het strand om een weerkaart erbij te pakken met pijlen en moeilijke grafiekjes om na 5 minuten te zeggen: Morgen regent het weer.

Laat maar komen. Vooral op deze baan wordt dat 1 groot gekkenhuis. 1 foutje en je staat in het grind. Dan gaan de mannen even van de jongetjes gescheiden worden.

  Hamilton is duidelijk de beste in de regen. Voor zover ik me kan heribneren heeft hij 1 race niet gewonnen in de regn in F1. Echter moet je in de regen wel een stabiele achterkant op de auto hebben. Hoe goed je ook bent.
