'Geannuleerd festival biedt Nürburgring opening voor een Grand Prix'

Niet Turkije, maar Duitsland lijkt nu de belangrijkste gegadigde om de Formule 1-kalender aan te vullen als er een plekje vrijkomt door het wegvallen van de Canadese Grand Prix. Het Duitse RTL beschikt over informatie dat de Formule 1 en de teams reeds hotels in de buurt van de Nürburgring aan het boeken zijn.

Opvallend, aangezien de leiding van de Nürburgring eerder liet doorschemeren dat het circuit in de Duitse Eifel tot november al helemaal volgeboekt was. Daar is echter verandering in gekomen door de annulering van het festival Rock am Ring. Dat festival zou plaatsvinden in het weekend van 11 tot en met 13 juni, precies het weekend waarin nu nog de Grand Prix van Canada op het programma staat.

De geruchten dat Montreal ook dit jaar niet in staat zal zijn om de Formule 1 te ontvangen, worden alsmaar hardnekkiger. Een Canadese Grand Prix met toeschouwers lijkt sowieso onhaalbaar en de lokale autoriteiten voelen er ook weinig voor om een race zonder publiek te financieren.

Naast de Nürburgring is ook Istanbul Park in beeld om weer als noodverband te fungeren. Het Turkse circuit deed vorig seizoen al dienst als Grand Prix-locatie en dat zou nu weer kunnen. Gezien de Grand Prix van Azerbeidzjan in het weekend ervoor zou een keuze voor Istanbul logischer zijn dan de Nürburgring, gezien de geringere afstand richting Bakoe. Maar aangezien de Formule 1 al van plan was om naar Montreal af te reizen, lijkt afstand geen rol van betekenis te spelen.

@verstoppen, hoe leuk dat ook klinkt, er is veel te veel hoogteverschil voor Formule auto's om op de Nordschleife te rijden. Eén bocht heet niet voor niks Flugplatz

Heb het opzich altijd een leuk circuit gevonden om te rijden (virtueel ofc)
Echter zie ik hier weinig kansen voor inhaalmanoeuvres.

Wat ik wel eens zou willen zien is een moderne f1 race op de schleife. Maargoed, Dream on eury, Dream on.
Gaat natuurlijk nooit gebeuren

  Of dan klappen de bandjes van Pirelli en hebben we helemaal geen race.
  Want we hebben nu niet, zoals in 2005 bij de GP van de VS., twee bandenleveranciers. En waar we toen nog 6 auto's hadden in de race, wat al een drama was natuurlijk, zouden we nu helemaal geen race hebben.
