Singapore hoopt eerste straatrace met toeschouwers te zijn sinds begin pandemie

De organisatoren van de Grand Prix van Singapore hopen dat Singapore het eerste stratencircuit gaat zijn waar buitenlandse toeschouwers aanwezig mogen zijn. Sinds het begin van de pandemie begin 2020 is er op geen enkel stratencircuit geracet.

Ook in het 2021-seizoen lijken stratencircuits de dupe te zijn van de nog steeds strenge maatregelen; de oorspronkelijke seizoensopener in Melbourne is verplaatst naar november, op de straten van Monte Carlo mogen alleen inwoners kijken, en in Baku mogen helemaal geen toeschouwers aanwezig zijn.

Ondanks de strenge maatregelen zijn de organisatoren van de Grand Prix van Singapore optimistisch of zij buitenlandse toeschouwers mogen ontvangen. Wanneer Formula Nerds vroeg over het ontvangen van internationale toeschouwers zei een woordvoerder van de Singapore GP het volgende: "De Grand Prix van Singapore is momenteel met overheidsinstanties aan het samenwerken om een werkbaar en veilig evenement te creëren op het Marina Bay Street Circuit aanstaande oktober", zo vertelt de woordvoerder. "De details zullen snel bekend gemaakt worden."

Het land Singapore heeft naar verhouding één van de laagste infectie- en sterftegevallen ter wereld als het gaat om het coronavirus. De overheid heeft destijds ook een gefaseerde aanpak gehanteerd om alledaagse activiteiten te hervatten, maar het ontvangen van vluchten uit een groot aantal landen wordt nog uitgesteld.

Ook werkt de timing van de race in Singapore mee; waar Monaco en Baku al relatief vroeg in het seizoen races organiseren, is de Grand Prix van Singapore pas over ruim vijf maanden. Dit creëert ruimte om een groter gedeelte van het volk te vaccineren, waar Singapore momenteel op 20% van de bevolking zit.

Moet kunnen over 5 maanden.. Maar in oktober ga je ook weer richting de herfst in het noordelijk halfrond, dus dan is het niet te hopen dat bij wat nieuwe gevallen de angst weer toeslaat en de halve wereld weer op slot gegooid wordt.. Voor Zandvoort in september hoop ik ook op volle tribunes.. Vorig jaar begon het virus rond die tijd hier weer op te leven, maar dat was toen nog zonder vaccinaties..
