Circuit Barcelona wil niet roteren op F1-kalender

Circuit de Catalunya-baas Ramon Tremosa wil dat de Spaanse GP een jaarlijkse vaste waarde blijft op de Formule 1-kalender. Er zijn suggesties dat, aangezien nieuwe gastheren zoals Miami de sport betreden, sommige bestaande Europese races mogelijk een jaarlijks rotatieschema moeten volgen om op de kalender te blijven.

Tremosa vertelde de krant El Mundo Deportivo dat hij daar tegen is. "We kunnen de continuïteit die we hebben niet verliezen, want als je de kalender verlaat, is het erg moeilijk om daarop terug te keren. Het is onze wil om een vaste plaats op de kalender te behouden in plaats van deze rotatie in te gaan."

Hij zei dat er momenteel onderhandelingen met de Formule 1 plaatsvinden. "De onderhandelingen zijn aan de gang en we zullen er discreet over zijn. De Formule 1 is erg geïnteresseerd in het voortzetten van dit evenement en we hebben goede hoop, maar de onderhandelingen zijn niet afgerond."
