Antonio Giovinazzi staat vrijdag in VT1 zijn auto af aan Callum Ilott

Callum Ilott komt vrijdag gelijk in actie voor zijn nieuwe werkgever Alfa Romeo. De Zwitserse renstal met de naam van een Italiaanse autofabrikant heeft de 22-jarige Brit aangetrokken als extra reserverijder, naast Robert Kubica. En in Portugal mag Ilott gelijk aan de bak.

De runner-up uit de Formule 2 van vorig jaar neemt vrijdag de eerste vrije training voor de Portugese Grand Prix op het circuit van Portimao voor zijn rekening. Reguliere coureur Antonio Giovinazzi zal die eerste sessie van het weekend moeten toekijken hoe Ilott zijn auto bestuurt.

Kubica is vanwege verplichtingen in de Europese Le Mans Series niet elk weekend beschikbaar, vandaar dat Alfa Romeo een tweede reserve aan de line-up heeft toegevoegd. Ilott heeft de voorbije twee jaar al een paar keer voor het team mogen testen en komt dus niet onbeslagen ten ijs.
