Mick Schumacher en Nikita Mazepin, twee tegenpolen bij Haas F1 Team

Haas F1 Team is dit seizoen aangevangen met een onervaren line-up, bestaande uit twee debutanten. Mick Schumacher veroverde vorig jaar de Formule 2-titel en kwam mede met dank aan zijn plek in het opleidingsprogramma van Ferrari bij de Amerikaanse renstal terecht. Nikita Mazepin eindigde in 2020 als vijfde in het voorportaal van de Formule 1 en dankt zijn stoeltje bij Haas F1 voor een groot deel aan de diepe zakken van vader Dmitry.

Schumacher en Mazepin zijn in weinig hetzelfde, bekent Haas F1-teambaas Günther Steiner tegenover Auto Motor und Sport. Schumacher gaat bedachtzaam en voorzichtig te werk, terwijl Mazepin in de eerste twee Grand Prix-weekenden van 2021 vooral opviel door onbesuisde acties en de vele momenten waarbij hij naast de baan geraakte. De jonge Rus is ongeduldiger dan zijn Duitse stalgenoot, de twee zijn tegenpolen.

Steiner verklaarde over Mazepin: "Een coureur moet altijd de limiet opzoeken zonder er overheen te gaan. Maar hoe kun je de limiet opzoeken als je niet weet waar de limiet ligt? Ik vertel onze jonge coureurs altijd dat ze in de tiende race zullen beseffen hoe weinig ze bij de eerste race wisten. Op het moment zelf denken ze namelijk alles al te weten. Pas later realiseren ze zich hoe veel ze nog te leren hadden. We moeten geduldig zijn. Nikita wil laten zien wat hij in zijn mars heeft en is daardoor wat ongeduldig. En dan gebeurt er wel eens wat."

Hoe anders is Schumacher, die eerder bedeesd dan uitbundig is. "Mick kan veeleisend zijn wanneer hij dat wil. Maar hij is altijd correct en vriendelijk. Hij weet heel goed wat hij wil. Hij is gewoon wat voorzichtiger in zijn benadering. Nikita is anders, maar beiden komen uit een ander milieu en zijn verschillend opgevoed. Dat wil niet zeggen dat het een beter is dan het ander. Het is aan ons om met uiteenlopende karakters om te gaan. Wij willen geen marionetten hier, we hebben persoonlijkheden nodig en ik kan dat aan. Er is geen goed of fout en ik heb geen voorkeur voor de een boven de ander", aldus Steiner.

Ik heb het stuk niet gelezen en ik denk dat Mick en Nikita tegen Polen zijn. Waarom weet ik niet, Kubica kwam altijd erg vriendelijk op mij over. Misschien hebben ze ruzie gehad? :(

Ik denk dat voor Günther dit seizoen niet snel genoeg voorbij kan gaan. Een kansloze auto en ieder interview zal gaan over dit rijdersduo, waarbij hij zeer waarschijnlijk voortdurend in de bres zal moeten springen voor de acties van Nikita. Wat een baan...

  Ah maak je over der Günther maar geen zorgen, die heeft voorafgaand aan het seizoen met zo'n duo al een boek met verhalen/excuses klaarliggen voor de interviews..

Ik lees gewoon dat Steiner 10 x liever Mick heeft dan Mazepin.....niks meer niks minder.

  heb het stukje nog een keer gelezen, maar dat haal ik er niet uit..
  Steiner kiest juist heel zorgvuldig zijn woorden om maar geen voorkeur uit te spreken..
  Bovendien, ik kende die Mazepin eigenlijk niet dus ik stond er blanco in, los van zijn fouten vind ik hem (tot nu toe althans) ook correct overkomen, ook in interviews

  Ook ik heb nog eens opnieuw gelezen.....en merk nu ookdat je het ook anders kan bekijken/lezen. Ik blijf toch een beetje het gevoel hebben dat Steiner liever Mick ziet/heeft. Mick zijn leercurve is uiteraard veel stijlen dan die van Mazepin en dat heb je volgend jaar nodig. Ze richten hun pijlen nu al op 2022 dus MOET er nu ervaring opgedaan worden en zodat ze volgend jaar terug wat kunnen meestrijden. En bij deze leid (lijd :-) ) Mick de dans. Steiner kennende heeft Mazepin ook al met zijn tenen op het matje gestaan.
