Jerome D'Ambrosio moet reserve-chassis gebruiken

Onze Zuiderbuur Jerome D'Ambrosio crashte gistermiddag tijdens de tweede vrije training voor de Grand Prix van Canada. Zijn race-chassis raakte hierdoor té beschadigd om verder te gebruiken, waardoor het Virgin-team een nieuwe wagen op zal bouwen rondom het reserve-chassis.

De Belg verloor de controle over zijn Virgin-wagen in de vierde bocht van het circuit, waarna hij tegen de buitenmuur crashte. Door de vele troep op de baan zorgde het ook voor een rode vlag situatie.

Bij de crash brak de ophanging van de neus aan het chassis, waardoor het team een nieuwe auto moet opbouwen rondom de reserve-wagen. De FIA-regels staan niet toe dat een Formule 1-team een complete reserve-auto bij zich hebben, wel is het toegestaan om een reserve-chassis klaar te hebben staan - waar alles omheen opgebouwd mag worden.

D'Ambrosio zelf zei na afloop van de crash: "De vrije trainingen verliepen best goed. De wagen voelde goed aan en ik had het erg naar mijn zin op dit circuit. Ik maakte een foutje in de derde bocht waardoor ik te wijd in de vierde bocht uitkwam. Ik kon niet meer insturen en crashte in de muur. Het is zonde dat we de dag niet vol hadden kunnen maken maar ik ben blij hoe de auto aanvoelde. Ik moet sorry zeggen tegen de monteurs, die nu heel veel werk te doen hebben, maar ik weet zeker dat we tijdens de derde vrije training en kwalificatie ons terug kunnen vechten."

Crashen is nooit goed, maar zoiets hoort erbij. Zeker in je rookie-jaar. En zoals de wereldkampioen liet zien, het kan iedereen gebeuren.

  Het is ook één van zijn eerste fouten van het jaar, voor de rest heb ik hem weinig tot geen fouten zien maken en dat voor zijn rookie-jaar! Hopelijk wordt hij opgepikt door een groter team voor volgend jaar of mag hij tenminste bij Virgin blijven.

Maar wel een domme fout. Sessie is stilgelegd, je staat ongeveer 5 minuten binnen, je gaat naar buiten, koude banden en dan dit.

  het is misschien dom, maar kijk maar naar de crash van Kobayashi en Vettel. die vind ik persoonlijk erger dan die van Jerome.
