Pirelli: "Alle banden hebben een voordeel in Portugal, keuze is dus groot"

Mario Isola van Pirelli heeft na dit weekend in Portugal genoeg uit te leggen aan de teams. De banden zijn gewoon niet goed genoeg voor races als Portugal en Turkije, maar ook bij andere races hebben coureurs moeite met de banden.

Dit weekend, evenals vorig jaar, werd er veel geklaagd over de banden en de bandenkeuze van Pirelli. In de banden in moeilijk temperatuur te krijgen en ze plakken niet goed genoeg op de baan. Het is niet de eerste race waar Pirelli veel kritiek krijgt van de coureurs, maar toch blijft het probleem zich voortduren.

Mario Isola had tijdens het persmoment geen duidelijk antwoord op de vraag of er verandering in zou komen. Natuurlijk worden de banden elk jaar verbetert, maar volgens de coureurs moet Pirelli naar een andere weg zoeken in de banden en proberen betere keuzes te maken.

De topman van Pirelli werd vooral aan het denken gezet, omdat Lewis Hamilton op de rode band de tijd van Bottas niet kon verbeteren, die op de gele band reed. “Net als vorig jaar koos Mercedes voor de mediumband in Q3, maar dit jaar konden ze hun eerste Q3-run niet verbeteren met de soft. Dit betekent dat er verschillende strategieën zijn, die we morgen waarschijnlijk zullen zien.”

“Vandaag wordt de top 10 verdeeld op welke banden ze de race zullen starten, met degenen die starten op de mediumband meer tactische flexibiliteit hebben, maar degenen die op de soft beginnen ook niet in het nadeel. De kwalificatie toonde aan dat alle drie de compounds een rol zullen gaan spelen in de race. Waarschijnlijk in de laatste stint krijgen we veel verschillende keuzes, omdat ze allemaal een optie zijn.”

Zolang de coureurs en teams janken, niets aan veranderen. We krijgen vaak alleen maar betere races wanneer het niet 100% naar hun wens is.
De omstandigheden zijn hetzelfde voor iedereen, dus ze moeten niet zeiken.

Geeft niets, zo krijgen we idd de strijd om de beste banden strategie, en ik heb liever dat ze 'n twee of drie stopper doen als 'n een stopper.

  Als Pirelli de hardste compounds meeneemt naar een circuit met een lage bandenslijtage zullen er waarschijnlijk juist weinig pitstops zijn.

De omstandigheden zijn hetzelfde voor iedereen, dus ze moeten niet zeiken.

  +1. Teams willen banden die als lijm op het asfalt kleven. En ze willen hooguit 1 stop maken, als het zou mogen zouden ze het zonder stops willen proberen. Kortom, tevreden zullen ze nooit zijn en dat is goed voor de competitie.

  Door de aerodynamica kunnen zij elkaar lastig volgen. Met meer grip van de banden kan dit enigszins omzeild worden en geeft meer mogelijkheden om in te halen.
  Dat geeft meer spektakel dan dat ze over de baan glijden.
