Robert Kubica in actie tijdens bandentest en VT1 in Barcelona

Alfa Romeo-reservecoureur Robert Kubica komt vrijdag in Barcelona tijdens de eerste vrije training in actie. Naast de testsessie mag Kubica ook de tweedaagse bandentest voor Pirelli uitvoeren, met de 18-inch banden die in 2022 zullen worden gebruikt.

In Barcelona zal Kubica op de vrijdag in de eerste sessie het stuurtje overnemen van Kimi Raikkonen. Tijdens de tweedaagse test zal hij in dienst van Alfa Romeo voor Pirelli gaan testen met de nieuwe banden voor 2022. Kubica gaat niet voor het eerst rijden in Barcelona met de C41. Hij was namelijk in februari al hier voor een filmdag met de nieuwe bolide. De coureur heeft in de tussentijd ook nog een wedstrijd gereden op het circuit met de European Le Mans Series, met veel ervaring gaat de coureur dus naar het circuit toe.

De Pool is blij met de kans die Alfa Romeo hem biedt. “Ik kijk ernaar uit om aanstaande vrijdag en volgende week weer in de auto te zitten. Nadat ik in februari voor het laatst met de C41 in Barcelona heb gereden, kijk ik er naar uit om te zien hoeveel de auto sindsdien is vooruitgegaan”, zo vertelt hij tegen Sauber Motorsport.

“Het besturen van een Formule 1-auto is altijd een bijzondere ervaring en ik kijk er naar uit om bij te dragen aan de inspanningen van het team in de strijd op het middenveld. Ook het rijden met de nieuwe 18-inch banden zal een nieuwe ervaring zijn.”

Goede inbreng

Zijn teambaas Frédéric Vasseur is blij voor de coureur. “Het is geweldig om Robert weer in de auto te hebben voor zijn eerste oefensessie van het seizoen en voor de bandentest in Barcelona. Elke keer dat hij in de auto stapt, is hij waardevol voor ons om zijn uitgebreide ervaring aan te delen en een ander perspectief op de C41 te krijgen.”

“Zijn technische feedback zal ook cruciaal zijn tijdens zijn runs met de 2022-banden. We zitten midden in een zeer hecht gevecht op het middenveld en elke inbreng van onze getalenteerde coureurs kan het geheime wapen zijn dat ons dat voordeel geeft om vooruit te komen."
