Le Mans: Update - Aston Martins uitgevallen, Nederlanders nog in de race

De afgelopen uren werd er nog veel nagepraat over het eerste uur, waarin de Audi nr3 met Allan McNish verschrikkelijk hard crashte. McNish kwam ongedeerd uit het wrak, en de fotografen ontliepen verwondingen.

Op de baan zijn wel diverse 'slachtoffers' van de uitputtingsslag te zien. In de testsessie ging het al niet goed, ook tijdens de 24-uur sloeg het noodlot snel toe bij de Aston Martins, 007 en 009. Beide wagens zijn uitgevallen en staan ook direct als eerste uitvallers van deze editie geklasseerd.

Peugeot heeft de overhand
Peugeot lijkt momenteel de overhand te hebben na enkele uren op Le Mans. Audi valt wat terug en moet sneller pitstops maken dan Peugeot, vanwege een hoger brandstof gebruik. Bovendien heeft Audi nr1 ook al enkele probleempjes gekend. Voorlopig leidt de Peugeot met nr7 de race.

Nederlanders
Startnummer 5, Hope Racing waar Jan Lammers voor rijdt, kende problemen. Het team doet nog mee, maar achteraan het veld op 36 ronden achterstand. Beter verloopt het bij Jeroen Bleekemolen. Hij ligt met Rebellion Racing op de zevende positie in zijn klasse, LMP1, en het algemeen klassement.

Debutant Jaap van Lagen kent tot nu toe ook succesvolle eerste uren. Met zijn Porsche 911 RSR van ProSpeed Competition, startnummer 75, ligt hij stabiel op de derde positie in de GTEPro-klasse. In dezelfde klasse doet ook Xavier Maassen mee, met een Ferrari 458 Italia voor het team van JMW Motorsport. Ze liggen momenteel op de achtste positie in de klasse.

Zonsondergang
Zo vlak na 21:00 uur gaat de zon langzaam onder, wat moeilijke momenten oplevert op de baan. De nacht komt eraan, wat altijd voor spektakel zorgt. Mogelijk wordt er ook nog wat regen verwacht. De race is het hele weekend lang live te volgen op Eurosport, of Eurosport2.

Audi lijkt voldoende snelheid te hebben om extra brandstofverbruik op te vangen. #2 heeft een stop meer gedaan en leidt de race.
