Voortdurende covid crisis werpt vraagtekens op over de Formule 1 Grand Prix van Australië

Dat de uitgestelde Grand Prix van Australië dit jaar nog kan worden gereden is nog geen gedane zaak. Er hangt nog een groot vraagteken boven de Grand Prix die eerder werd uitgesteld vanwege de covid crisis. Vorig jaar werd de race op het allerlaatste moment afgeblazen toen de wereld voor een immense lockdown stond.

Terwijl andere landen vooruitgang lijken te boeken in de covid crisis, staan de zaken er in Australië minder goed voor. Het land is hermetisch afgesloten om internationale besmettingen buiten de deur te houden.

De premier Scott Morrison zegt dat het nog te vroeg is om te bepalen of de Grand Prix dit jaar nog doorgang kan vinden.

Hij zegt dinsdag: "Ik zou willen aantekenen hoe anders het is om naar Australië te kokmen, want de meeste landen waar zij (De Formule 1, red.) heen gaan worden doorkruist door covid."

Hij vervolgt: "Australië is niet doordrengt met covid dus het risico profiel in andere landen is geheel anders. Dat is iets wat wij absoluut willen beschermen."

Desondanks benadrukt de promotor van de Australische Grand Prix Andrew Westacott dat er hard gewerkt wordt om de Grand Prix toch door te kunnen laten gaan. De race staat gepland voor eind november dit jaar.

Westacott zegt tegen omroep ABC: "Zoas je kunt voorstellen wordt het heel, heel erg ingewikkeld, het is heel erg in ontwikkeling en we werken samen met de overheid aan alle details momenteel."

De organisator tempert de geruchten dat Australië het voorbeeld van Oostenrijk zou kunnen volgen om twee Grands Prix te organiseren, zeker nu er ook een groot vraagteken hangt boven de Braziliaanse Grand Prix.

"Ik denk dat in Brazilië de mensen alles op alles zetten om hun Grand Prix te kunnen organiseren, twee weken voordat wij aan de beurt zijn."

Tegen radiozender SEN zei de Australische organisator dat hij halverwege september verwacht te kunnen melden of de race later dit jaar doorgang zal kunnen vinden.

Die worden 3 weken opgesloten als ze 1 geval van corona hebben volgens mij, wat gaan die doen als straks de mensen die het willen gevaccineerd zijn in dat land? de mensen die niet gevaccineerd zijn opsluiten ofzo? Daar is ook totaal nog geen natuurlijke immuniteit. Alsof dit virus ooit weggaat.

  Klopt, En je hebt wel meer van die landen. die denken dat ze het helemaal kunnen uitbannen zonder heel je leven opgesloten te gaan zitten. Vaccinatiegraad is nooit 100% en er komen toch wel varianten die het vaccin deels omzeilen. Kortom: Kan je voor altijd lekker na een paar besmettingen opgesloten worden(daar staat gewoon politie voor de deur hoor) of je gaat accepteren dat het er is en beperkt de schade.

Als er één ding is wat je niet moet willen, is überhaupt naar Brazilië gaan in de huidige situatie.
Wat je vervolgens als land niet wil, is hordes mensen je land in krijgen die in de dagen er voor in Brazilië geweest zijn.
