In de loop der tijd zijn Formule 1-bolides snel héél complex geworden. Waar vroeger een gemiddeld Formule 1-stuurtje slechts een knop bevatte voor stuurbekrachtiging, differentieel en een boordradio, kunnen coureurs over één ronde al tientallen zaken aanpassen.

In een YouTube-video van het Mercedes AMG F1-team vertellen verschillende teamgenoten over welke zaken er gedurende een ronde geregeld kunnen worden. Zo zijn de coureurs in staat om met verschillende instellingen ervoor te zorgen dat er per bocht zoveel mogelijk snelheid uit de banden gehaald kan worden.

Ook weten we dat coureurs via instellingen op hun stuurtje kunnen bepalen op welke manier elektrisch vermogen naar de achterwielen wordt gestuurd. Voorheen kon er zelfs worden bepaald hoeveel vermogen de interne verbrandingsmotor kon leveren, echter dit werd halverwege vorig jaar verboden om ervoor te zorgen dat zogeheten "quali modes" buitenspel werden gezet.

Kijk hieronder mee wat voor werkdruk een coureur ervaart tijdens een ronde in een Formule 1-wagen.

Ik weet dat het een technische achteruitgang is, maar wat zou ik weer graag handmatig schakelen terug willen zien !
Dat zou het denk ik ook veel interessanter maken met:
- Starts
- Versnellingsbakken die door verkeerd schakelen er aan gaan
en je kunt je als coureur ook meer onderscheiden.
