"Teams die aan elkaar gelinkt zijn zouden hun windtunnels niet moeten delen"

Volgens de baas van McLaren zouden Formule 1-teams die aan elkaar gelieerd zijn hun windtunnel niet met elkaar moeten delen.

Onlangs schreef Zak Brown een open brief waarin hij zijn ongenoegen uit met het feit dat bijvoorbeeld Haas en Ferrari hun windtunnels delen. Ook Mercedes heeft een dergelijke samenwerking met Aston Martin.

Guenther Steiner zegt tegen het Oostenrijkse FormelAustria dat het kleine Amerikaasne Haas F1-team komende week verhuist naar hun nieuwe plek op het hoofdkantoor van Ferrari in Maranello.

Steiner: "De verhuizing staat gepland voor volgende week en dan zullen we serieus kunnen beginnen aan de voorbereidingen voor 2022.

McLaren gebruikt dan weliswaar motoren van Mercedes, maar opereert verder onafhankelijk. McLaren-baas Brown trekt dan ook aan de bel bij de FIA omdat hij meent dat de overkoepelende autosportbond "absoluut moet ingrijpen".

Brown laat weten: "Ik heb er geen probleem mee om samen te werken op gebieden als de versnellingsbak om de kleine teams te helpen." Zak Brown vertelt verder bij Motorsport-Magazine: "Dat is goed en gezond."

Maar..

Brown vervolgt: "Maar persoonlijk vind ik het niet leuk als twee verbonden teams dezelfde windtunnel delen. Ik zou graag beperkingen zien als er een directe relatie is."

Concreet vindt hij dat een aan Ferrari gelieerd team als Haas een andere windtunnel zou moeten gebruiken dan die in Maranello.

"Ik kon mij voorstellen dat ze de windtunnel van Renault zouden gebruiken. Sauber heeft ook een geweldige faciliteit", zei Brown.

Door de budget restricties gaan teams natuurlijk inventief om met de kosten. Soms heb je daar een win win relatie zoals Ferrari/Haas. Begrijp maar al te goed dat Zak aan de bel hangt maar de bal zal iets te ver aan het rollen zijn gegaan daarvoor. Dat personeel van Haas dat over de windtunnel gaat zat niet bepaald dichtbij en volgende week openen ze al hun faciliteit in Maranello....

Dus, je mag van Brown niet bij een externe partij tijd in een windtunnel inhuren?
Of mag dat alleen niet als die partij toevallig een ander team is?

Ik hoor geen redenen waarom dat een issue zou moeten zijn. Als hij bang is dat er informatie wordt uitgewisseld, dan kan hij gerust zijn. Dat gebeurt namelijk sowieso wel, daar heb je geen windtunnel voor nodig.

  Eamm, SAM heeft juist zijn eigen achterkant gekozen heb ik me laten vertellen. Maar kan het mis hebben dat ik het verkeerd begreep.
  
  Hoe dan ook. Wat Brown wil gaat er niet door komen. Er zijn 6 teams die delen. Dus krijgt geen meerderheid.

  Eamm: je gaat geen Red Bull vleugel op een SAT zetten, omdat dat helemaal niets zegt. De rest van de SAT is immers anders dan de Red Bull, dus heb je andere luchtstromen en dus is zo'n test zinloos.

  Waarom is er enkel sprake van de achtervleugel kijk naar MB en AM vorige jaar, daar is het wel eenvoudiger om dingen te testen of te kopieren.

De verwijzing naar Sauber begrijp ik niet volledig, die rijden ook met Ferrari en zijn dus onrechtstreeks ook gelinkt met Haas.
