Valtteri Bottas hoopt dat Mercedes de afstelling voor de kwalificatie nog op orde krijgt

Valtteri Bottas zegt dat Mercedes moeite heeft om de banden op temperatuur te krijgen en worstelt met de balans in de auto in de langzame bochten. Zaterdag staat de kwalificatie op het programma in de Grand Prix van Monaco.

Lewis Hamilton en Valtteri Bottas zijn er alles aan gelegen op de zaken op orde te krijgen tijdens de derde vrije training voorafgaand aan de kwalificatie later vandaag.

Volgens Bottas zouden andere teams het op deze gebieden beter voor elkaar hebben dan Mercedes.

De Finse coureur zegt op Formula1.com: "Tijdens de eerste ronde op de donderdag kreeg ik ze (banden, red.) niet aan het werk. We moeten hard werken en het zien op te lossen. Ik heb het gevoel dat sommige auto's dus een voordeel hebben ten opzichte van ons."

Bottas is nog niet klaar: "Ik heb het gevoel dat ik neerwaartse druk tekort kom aan de voorkant op deze baan. We hebben al wat probleempjes gehad op circuits halverwege de bochten, maar doet zich vooral voor in de lage snelheidsbochten. Als je niet het gevoel hebt dat de auto instuurt aan de voorkant dan verlies je al snel best veel tijd."

De klaagzang van Bottas is nog niet voorbij: "Het voelt ook alsof de auto vrij stijf is, dus alle oneffenheden op de baan en alle schuine stukken asfalt voel je behoorlijk. Daar moeten we naar kijken."

Het valt te hopen voor Valtteri Bottas en Lewis Hamilton dat hun team oplossingen heeft weten te vinden in de afstelling en dat ze die kunnen verfijnen tijdens de laatste vrije training. Zaterdagmiddag volgt de wellicht belangrijkste kwalificatie voor het jaar. De startopstelling in Monaco is misschien wel belangrijker dan op alle andere circuits, aangezien er op het circuit van Monaco moeilijk in te halen valt vanwege een gebrek aan ruimte.
