Mick Schumacher trekt boetekleed aan: "Ik sta meer in de weg dan ik kan helpen"

Mick Schumacher gaf toe dat hij wenste dat hij zijn Haas-monteurs had kunnen helpen bij het herbouwen van zijn auto na de crash die hem dwong de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Monaco uit te zitten. De Duitser zal als laatste starten nadat een zware crash bij Casino Square in de laatste fase van de derde training te veel werk heeft achtergelaten voor het team om de schade te herstellen voorafgaand aan de kwalificatie.

De debutant en zoon van Michael Schumacher trok het boetekleed aan: "Deze auto's zijn zo complex. Er is heel weinig dat ik zou kunnen doen, want als ik kon helpen, zou ik dat graag hebben gedaan. Maar ik zou meer in de weg staan dan dat ik kon helpen."

"Ik bracht het grootste deel van de kwalificatie door met de jongens die ik probeerde te helpen waar ik kon, maar ze zijn echt professioneel en weten dat mijn beroep het rijden van de auto is. Ik zal het op een gegeven moment proberen terug te betalen, maar vooralsnog moet ik vooral ervaring en kennis opdoen."

"Het was erg jammer, want we waren redelijk goed bezig. We hadden een redelijk goede snelheid en hadden tot op dat punt veel vertrouwen in de auto. Aantoonbaar is dat we te zelfverzekerd waren, waarbij we behoorlijk hard pushten om de limiet op te zoeken."

"In die bocht is het vrij gemakkelijk om een fout te maken. Als ik erop terugkijk, moet ik mezelf afvragen of het het waard is? Waarschijnlijk zou het antwoord nee zijn, maar desalniettemin is er enorm veel dat ik heb geleerd door alle vrije trainingen. Uiteindelijk kun je zeggen dat er niets verloren gaat, want je gaat naar een race als Monaco, wat een heel speciale race is omdat er van alles kan gebeuren."

"Fouten worden hier makkelijk gemaakt, dat is niet alleen voor mij maar voor iedereen op de grid. We gaan met een open blik de race in, hebben veel strategieën waarmee we kunnen spelen en hopelijk kunnen we meedoen in de strijd voor ons."

Niets om je voor te schamen, er zijn al zoveel grote namen hier in tranen geëindigd.

Heel volwassen reactie van Mick. Die snapt duidelijk dat je een team bent. Jij mag in de auto rijden, maar de monteurs zorgen er voor dat jij in de auto kán rijden.

Off topic:
Rinus van Kalmthout mag morgen meedoen aan de "Fast Nine" kwalificatie voor de Indy 500.
Daar heeft hij zich vandaag met een 5e plek voor gekwalificeerd. :)

  Ik heb even zitten kijken. Ben maar gestopt met kijken. Wat een saaie bedoening. Ik snap wel overigens dat men het doet alleen op de baan.
  
  Stond zijn teamgenoot en eigenaar ook niet in de top? Die auto lijkt dus wel goed te gaan.

  Ja, Ed Carpenter zelf stond één plek voor Rinus op P4.
  Zij zijn overigens ook de enige 2 Chevrolet aangedreven teams in de Fast 9, tussen de Honda aangedreven teams. De eerstvolgende Chevrolet staat op P12, Patricio O'ward.

  Lol @snailer wat de een saai vind , vond de ander retespannend ! Persoonlijk vond ik de Indy500 en ook de kwalificaties gewoon ontzettend mooi! Mooier als de race op Monaco die principieel bepaald wordt door de kwalificatie!
