Mugello staat klaar om terug te keren op F1-kalender

Als Liberty Media de Formule 1 in 2021 terug naar Mugello wil halen, dan is het circuit klaar om direct te onderhandelen. Mugello Circuit, gevestigd in Toscane, Italië, is eigendom van Ferrari en is een regelmatige testlocatie voor de Scuderia. Maar in 2020 verwelkomde het circuit voor het eerst alle Formule 1-teams tijdens de eerste Grand Prix van Toscane.

De coronapandemie betekende dat de oorspronkelijke Formule 1-kalender van 2020 moest worden aangepast, met een nieuw schema van 17 races waarin de Toscaanse Grand Prix als de negende race van het seizoen diende.

Hoewel het seizoen 2021 nog niet dezelfde problemen heeft gekend, zijn er toch verschillende grote wijzigingen aangebracht in de oorspronkelijke kalender.

De Australische Grand Prix werd uitgesteld tot november, terwijl de Canadese Grand Prix opnieuw werd geannuleerd. Oorspronkelijk was de Turkse Grand Prix aangekondigd als vervanger, maar kort daarna werd ook die race afgelast. De Franse Grand Prix werd vervolgens een week vervroegd om plaats te maken voor een double-header op de Oostenrijkse Red Bull Ring op 27 juni en 4 juli.

Mochten er nog andere locaties zijn die de Formule 1 moet opvullen, dan staat de burgemeester van Scarperia en San Piero Federico Ignesti, de gemeente waar Mugello Circuit zich bevindt, klaar om met Liberty Media in gesprek te gaan.

"We zijn klaar. Als Liberty Media bereid is om samen te werken. We zeggen tegen niemand nee, we zullen zien wat er gebeurt", zei hij tegen Corriere dello Sport.

Hoe kom je daarbij? Er zijn tal van huidige F1 circuits die veel minder geschikt voor F1. Mugello imo een topcircuit en zeer geschikt voor F1.

Het mooiste circuit wat er is, maarrrrr niet voor F1, meer voor DTM of GT races.

Ik zeg doen! Had liever hier een race gezien ter vervanging van Canada ipv 2 races in Oostenrijk.

  Vond ik ook. Dubbeltjes waren een noodzakelijk kwaad vorig seizoen. Had men nu anders kunnen oplossen. Zou de naam van die overigens leuke track er voor iets tussen zitten?

Het circuit ziet er om één of andere reden veel mooier uit tijdens de motorraces (nu Moto2). Misschien is het ook de tijd van het jaar, maar dat kan niet het enige zijn. Wat mij betreft hoeft de F1 niet persé terug, al verdient het misschien nog wel een 2e kans.
