Ferrari heeft dit seizoen de motor weer bijna op het oude niveau weten te krijgen. De Italiaanse renstal verloor vorig seizoen veel snelheid, door een ingreep van de FIA. Het team koos er voor om de motor helemaal opnieuw te ontwerpen en niet het Mercedes-ontwerp te gebruiken, wat veel teams doen. Hieronder de uitleg:
