Mazepin biedt 'welgemeende' excuses aan bij Schumacher "Puur omdat hij zo van slag was"

Nikita Mazepin zegt dat hij zich alleen verontschuldigde bij zijn teamgenoot Mick Schumacher omdat de Duitser zo overstuur was na hun Baku-incident vlak voor de finish.

Schumacher riep uit: "Wil hij ons vermoorden?" na Mazepin's snelle stuurbeweging naar rechts waar Schumacher hem op volle snelheid probeerde in te halen vlak voor de zwart-wit geblokte vlag.

"Ik sta nog steeds versteld. Dat had ik niet verwacht tussen teamgenoten", zei de 22-jarige Duitser twee weken later op het circuit bij Paul Ricard.

"Het team sprak met hem. Ik ben daar pas later bij aan tafel aangeschoven", voegde de zoon van de grote Michael Schumacher eraan toe.

"Ik heb hem mijn mening heel duidelijk gemaakt en hij bood zijn excuses aan."

Schumacher zegt dat zijn relatie met de controversiële Rus in principe niet veranderd is, hoewel hij toe moet geven dat er wel "een klein beetje vertrouwen weg is..

Schumacher zegt namelijk dat hij nu niet goed kan inschatten wat hij de volgende keer weer voor onvoorspelbare toeren zal uithalen op vaak duizelingwekkende snelheden.

Schumacher: "Ik weet eerlijk gezegd niet weet wat ik de volgende keer van hem moet verwachten."

Mazepin geeft toe dat hij zich verontschuldigde, maar hij zegt dat het meer een reactie was op de emoties van Schumacher dan op het incident zelf.

Mazepin vertelt dat hij eigenlijk niet oprecht zijn excuses maakte, maar eerder omdat hij de emoties bij Schumacher wat wilde kalmeren.

Mazepin: "Ik heb mijn excuses aangeboden omdat hij van streek was. Ik had het gevoel dat ik het moest doen, ook al zie ik mijzelf niet als schuldig.

"Ik zal in de toekomst ook geen enkele coureur het leven gemakkelijk maken. We zijn twee jonge coureurs op de limiet, dus het kan tot dit soort situaties leiden. Maar ik denk dat zolang de auto's onbeschadigd zijn, dat oké is voor de baas", aldus de Haas-coureur.

Nikita heeft gewoon niet veel schijfruimte over als hij aan het racen is. Net zoals Lance. Daardoor is hij zich minder goed bewust van de situatie om hem heen.

  Misschien dat hij wel een hele grote gaat worden, maar niet in de F1 denk ik. Ik ben vooralsnog niet onder de indruk van deze jongen.

Is gewoon een aso rus, zijn er zoveel van, laten we hopen dat hij het na 1 -2 seizoenen wel gezien heeft in de F1.

  Ik bedoel meer hoe hij is, en wat hij al uitgespookt heeft, dan klopt het wel wat ik schreef, ging niet alleen om deze aktie.
  Lance die heeft wel een goede opvoeding gehad, die 2 kan je echt niet vergelijken.

In het Baku incident heeft Nikita uitgelegd dat hij verwachtte dat Mick aan de binnenkant in zou gaan halen. Dat was ook de meest logische optie.
Mick koos voor de buitenkant op hetzelfde moment dat Nikita in zijn spiegels aan het kijken was. Dat lange rechte stuk was de enige plek op de baan waar even tijd was om rond te kijken en settings te veranderen. Althans voor Nikita met zijn beperkte schijfruimte.
Hij keek dus links, zag niks terwijl hij Mick daar verwachtte, keek rechts en wilde nog een soort van verdedigende actie maken maar de timing was toen al niet meer goed waardoor Nikita alsnog terug naar links moest om Mick niet helemaal af te knijpen.
Weliswaar onhandig en de fout van Nikita maar het was te begrijpen en ook weer niet dramatisch. Gewoon typisch voor een rijder die het net niet allemaal bij kan benen. In de basis deed Nikita dan ook weinig fout en een excuus zou niet nodig zijn. Wel was het onhandig en Mick ervoer het daardoor een kort moment als gevaarlijk. Dat is wat Nikita ook aangeeft.
Hij moet gewoon echt nog heel veel leren en heel veel ervaring opdoen. Hij is echt net Lance in die beginjaren en het is niet alleen maar schijt hebben of aso zijn. Dat valt echt wel mee.

  Ik, begrijp het eigenlijk niet.
  Je hebt opstart klasses, hebt close-calls ofwel, wiel aan wiel gereden met een ander. Je gaat in een F1 auto rijden en aanvoelen, verbeteren, leren hoe breed je wagen is, balans wat je wel en niet kan, toch,.. word je finaal neergemaaid, om wat?
  
  Je hebt ineens alles verleerd en hoppa, maakt wat drama's en nog zijn kin omhoog. Ik VAT het niet.

Kan daar wel om glimlachen deze reactie van Mazepin. Het was ook zwaar overtrokken die reactie van Mick. Onze keurige Duitse coureur moet gewoon wat meer kloten krijgen.
