Daniel Ricciardo kon weer genieten in de auto: "Droomrace"

Daniel Ricciardo is tijdens de Franse Grand Prix wederom verslagen door zijn jongere en minder ervaren teamgenoot Lando Norris, maar Ricciardo maakt vooruitgang en weet nu zijn teamgenoot beter bij te houden dan voorheen dit seizoen. De McLarens kwamen flink naar voren gestormd tijdens de race.

Daniel Ricciardo reed van de tiende plaats en kwam als zesde over de streep, achter zijn teamgenoot Norris die van de achstste startplaats naar P5 wist te rijden.

Ricciardo: "Het was een coole race, wj zagen dat iedereen een beetje worstelde met de banden en wij worstelden wat minder. Ik dacht; lijden jullie maar lekker, en ik kon aanvallen."

Dat hij kan aanvallen en zich goed in de kijker reed, toont aan dat de Australiër zich eindelijk lekkerder lijkt te voelen in de McLaren, na een moeilijke gewenningsperiode bij het nieuwe team. Zo kwam hij in Monaco niet uit de verf, terwijl hij daar in het verleden wist te winnen.

Ricciardo kan dan ook weer genieten in de auto, vertelt hij in gesprek met Sky Sports F1.

Daniel Ricciardo: "Dit was absoluut een positieve zondag. Ik denk dat het de race was waar we op hoopten, maar niet degene die we hadden verwacht. Ik denk niet dat we verwachtten dat onze naaste concurrent (Ferrari) geen punten zou scoren en dat we met beide auto's de beste van het middenveld zouden zijn."

Droomrace

Ricciardo is opgelucht en spreekt van de race van zijn dromen, na de lastige seizoensstart waarin hij vooral moest wennen aan zijn nieuwe team en auto. Ricciardo: "Dit was onze droomrace en wij zijn erin geslaagd om het voor elkaar te krijgen. Ik ben erg blij met de race, maar als ik eerlijk ben, was ik nog niet helemaal blij met de auto. Ik worstelde van de ronden naar de startgrid en daarna voor de hele race. Maar het voelde alsof iedereen, behalve Lando, meer worstelde. Het was een leuke race en ik ben blij dat die vandaag als vijfde en zesde hebben kunnen afsluiten en zo samen dikke punten voor het team mee naar huis hebben genomen. Het wordt ook wel tijd dat wij weer in deze posities komen, dus het was een positieve dag."

echt back zou hij Lando moeten kunnen verslaan.......of is Lando bijna net zo goed als Max.......???

  Denk niet dat Lando zo goed is of kan worden als Max, al weet je het natuurlijk nooit.
  
  Wel lijkt hij dit jaar definitief door te breken, hij heeft al een aantal indrukwekkende races gereden.
  
  Met Lewis en Max hebben we te maken met buitencategorie , maar niet ver daar achter zou Norris zich kunnen vestigen.

  Denk dat Norris en Leclerc (vlak) onder Verstappen en Hamilton zitten en daar net onder Ricciardo.
  
  Evengoed verbaast het me niet als Daniël in de kwalificatie of in de race Lando een speldenprik geeft.

  Mwah, minder dan 10 seconden achter Lando, die uiteindelijk de betere strategie bleek te hebben, ik verwacht niet heel veel meer dan dat. Lando is geen koekenbakker.

Bij Renault duurde het ook een half seizoen voordat ie op stoom kwam dus ik maak me geen zorgen. Goede coureur, topgozer.
Ik ben benieuwd hoe Norris reageert als Ricciardo echt op stoom is gekomen hem met regelmaat verslaat. Ik denk dat deze 2 karakters elkaar juist naar grotere hoogtes kunnen stuwen. McLaren boft met die 2.

  Het is ook logisch dat het bij Daniël wat langer duurt om de auto te begrijpen omdat hij technisch wat minder onderlegd is (zijn eigen woorden paar jaar geleden).
