Jos Verstappen glundert bij magistrale zege in Frankrijk zoon Max Verstappen: "Mijn hart klopte in mijn keel"

Max Verstappen scoorde een meesterlijke en spijkerharde overwinning tijdens de Grand Prix van Frankrijk, waarin de Limburger vlak voor het einde nog de grote Lewis Hamilton weet te verslaan. Tijdens de één-na-laatste ronde van de Franse Grand Prix op Paul Ricard slaat Verstappen meedogenloos toe als hij de Mercedes voorbij raast.

Nadat Verstappen uit zijn auto klimt en zijn team in de armen wil vliegen, ziet hij vader ___Escaped_link_698495bc3b392___: Max stuift op zijn vader af en vliegt hem in de armen.

Jos Verstappen: “Voor mij was het té spannend. Mijn hart klopte in mijn keel. Voor een vader is dit niet de fijnste wedstrijd die er is. Het fijnste is als hij 20 seconden weg rijdt en gewoon wint, maar op deze manier is de overwinning wel nog mooier als het goed afloopt en gelukkig is het ook goed afgelopen."

De voormalige Arrrows-coureur vertelt over de spanning die zijn zoon veroorzaakte. Verstappen: "Op een gegeven moment dacht ik dat het niet meer zou gaan lukken. Het gat bleef rond de vijf seconden hangen tot vier ronden voor het einde. Maar, daarna was het klaar. Je zag aan Lewis Hamilton dat hij geen voorbanden meer had en dat kwam goed uit voor ons.”

Verstappen wist de strategische knappe koppen van Mercedes te verrassen toen hij een snelle pitstop maakte, maar vooral ook met een bloedgang zijn eerste outlap reed.

Jos Verstappen vertelt: “De stop van Max was redelijk. De tweede sector was al goed, maar in de laatste sector was Max anderhalve seconden sneller dan daarvoor. Toen Max Lewis de pits uit zag komen, gebruikte hij nog even de maximale elektrische energie en kwam hij er net voor.”

Verstappen 'senior' moet dan ook tegen de waterlanders vechten bij het aanhoren van het Wilhelmus op Paul Ricard.

ja hoor het is weer zo ver, het is lang goed gegaan maar Verstappen senior is weer in een vechtpartij verzeild geraakt, ditmaal tegen de waterlanders

  ik heb geen waterlanders meer gezien dus Jos heeft ze waarschijnlijk vakkundig kort en klein gemept

  Die waterlanders zijn na een hoog opgelopen verbaal conflict voor zijn auto gaan staan en verhinderden hem om weg te rijden. Jos heeft de auto gestart en is stapvoets vooruit gereden. De waterlanders bleven staan tot hij zachtjes met de bumper tegen ze aan kwam. Daarna zijn ze opzij gestapt en is Jos doorgereden. Dat die waterlanders daarna aangifte deden en deze toch weer introkken is typerend voor de moeizame relatie die ze met Jos onderhouden. Van een gevecht was echter geen sprake.

Ik voede precies hetzelfde Jos. Tjongejonge wat speelde dat blikken blaasorkest slecht zeg, kreeg er ook tranen van in m'n ogen.
