Ontwikkelaars Austin staan garant voor benodigde miljoenen

Full Throttle Productions, de ontwikkelingsgroep achter de Grand Prix van Amerika in Austin, heeft toegezegd om de komende tien jaar jaarlijks vier miljoen dollar bij te dragen aan het fonds voor grote evenementen. Dat was nodig ook, aangezien de stad het bedrag niet voor zijn rekening wilde nemen en het wel een voorwaarde voor een jaarlijkse tegemoetkoming van 25 miljoen dollar door de staat Texas is.

Op 23 juni stemt de gemeenteraad over het project en met het voorstel zoals dat er nu ligt kunnen veel leden wel leven, waardoor de Formule 1-race op het Circuit of the Americas verzekerd lijkt. Austin-burgemeester Lee Leffingwell vertelt in de Austin Chronicle: Dit bevestigt wat ik al die tijd al verkondigd heb, namelijk dat de stad niet vooraf geld in dit project steekt en dat de stad geen risico loopt. Ik hoop dat dit genoeg is om de volledige en onvoorwaardelijke steun van de gemeenteraad te krijgen.
