W Series: Beitske Vissser start als vierde op Red Bull Ring

Beitske Visser start als vierde in de eerste race van de W Series, een klasse voor vrouwelijk racetalent. De Nederlandse reed op de Red Bull Ring in Oostenrijk een tijd van 1:29.212. De snelste was Alice Powell uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk met 1.28.964. Titelverdedigerster Jamie Chadwick start als achtste. Voor het eerst rijdt de W-series in het voorprogramma van de Formule 1. De bolide die wordt gebruikt, is de Tatuus F3T-318, een wagen te zien is in de Formule 3.

Voorgeschiedenis W Series

De klasse werd opgericht op 10 oktober in 2018 met als doel om meer meisjes en vrouwen een kans te geven in de autosport. In 2019 was het eerste seizoen een feit. Visser werd tweede in de stand achter Chadwick en voor Powell. De klasse reed toen in het bijprogramma van de DTM.

In 2020 was er geen W Series vanwege het coronavirus. Het plan was toen al gesmeed om meer samen te werken met de Formule 1.

Deze series past perfect in de filosofie van de FIA met de slogan #weraceasone. Iedereen, ongeacht afkomst of geslacht, moet de kans krijgen om de top te bereiken in de racerij. Door de verbinding met de Formule 1, genereert dat meer aandacht.

Wanneer is de race?

De race start zaterdag rond 16.45. De race in Spielberg duurt 30 minuten plus één ronde. De races zijn live to volgen op Ziggo Sport. Begin september is de W Series op het circuit van Zandvoort.

Geen enkel probleem.
De enige reden dat er nu geen vrouw vooraan de F1 rijdt is omdat bij de mannen er 1 miljoen talenten rondrijden waarvan de beste dus altijd veel sneller zijn dan bij de vrouwen. Daar rijden tenslotte (in verhouding) maar 25 talenten rond en de beste daarvan zijn niet gelijkwa... [Lees verder]

Denken jullie dat een vrouw ooit in staat is om vooraan mee te doen in de F1? Vind dat met sport altijd een lastig ding omdat de man fysiek gezien gewoon sterker is. De snelste kwalificatieronde van de F3 vorig jaar op Spielberg was 1:19.429. Een week later 1:20.378.

Daar rijden tenslotte (in verhouding) maar 25 talenten rond en de beste daarvan zijn niet gelijkwaardig aan de beste van die 1 miljoen mannelijke talenten.
  Zet echter voortaan wereldwijd elke schoolmeid vanaf 8 jaar op de kart en over 15 jaar heeft de F1 alleen maar vrouwen in de top.
  Met fysiek heeft het allemaal niks te maken. Er zijn zat vrouwen die fitter en sterker zijn dan de gemiddelde NL huisman.
  Het heeft met spoeling te maken. Als er maar jaarlijks 5 meisjes in Nl gaan karten tov 250 jongens dan is het toch logisch. In de rest van de wereld is het nog erger.
  Beitste rijdt in de Sim gewoon Doornbos en Coronel en Van de Garde naar huis. Op het circuit ook.

  Dat is een goed punt Rimmer! Al betwijfel ik nog wel of het fysieke aspect echt niet meetelt. Maar goed, een Yuki ziet er ook niet heel sterk uit idd.

Ik vind deze klasse helemaal niks... de autos zijn sloom, slechts een top 5 rijd waardige rondetijden in de race en van de 5 snelle vrouwen zijn er 2 ouder dan 27...

Ik zou meer in zon klasse geloven als het letterlijk in de F3 reed. Heeft een vrouw een dominante race kan ze het gevecht aan gaan met een mannelijke F3 coureur. Niet om punten maar wel om de uitstraling. (Zoals LMP2 bij LMP1 in rijdt, eigen punten/kampioenschap)

T deelnemersveld is dan wel gigantisch... 40 tot 50 autos ? Dat is wel wat veel.

  Sophia Florsch en Esmee Hawkee rijden ook mee in de DTM met de mannen, in de 1e 2 races werden ze 15e en 16e met maar 1 finishende auto achter zich, op zo'n 40 seconden achter de winnaar na 28 rondjes

  En dan hebben we natuurlijk ook Beitske Visser die in de WSR meereed maar in haar 3e seizoen daar nog steeds niet de top 10 haalde terwijl Roy Nissany dat seizoen 3 races won en 4e werd in het kampioenschap, maar Nissany haalde 189 punten, Beitske 50 dat jaar
