Mika Salo neemt het op voor Nikita Mazepin: "Gebrek aan ervaring"

Nikita Mazepin zou een zwaar 2021 beleven vanwege gebrek aan ervaring. Dat meent voormalig F1-coureur en huidige FIA-steward Mika Salo. Volgens Salo heeft Mick Schumacher de overhand op Mazepin. Ook zou Schumacher het voortouw hebben genomen binnen het team van Haas.

Bij de Finse omroep C More zegt Salo het wel te begrijpen waarom de Russische coureur een moeizame start van zijn F1-loopbaan beleeft.

"Mazepin heeft zoveel minder ervaring dan de anderen. Ze zijn hier allemaal voor opgeleid in de junior academies, maar Mazepin niet. Hij was niet in staat om echte tests te doen en hij stond niet op de radar, stond niet in de spotlights van de media, zoals de anderen wel gewend waren."

"Er zullen heel wat nieuwe en verrassende dingen zijn geweest die hij moest ontdekken", zegt de Fin.

Weinig ervaring?

Mazepin's vader Dmitry is de titelsponsor van Haas met het merk Uralkali. De coureur genoot wel van eerdere uitstapjes voor Force India en Mercedes, terwijl hij vorig jaar privé een 2017-Mercedes bestuurde op verschillende testcircuits.

Mika Salo denkt dat er een belangrijke taak is voor het Haas F1-team om hun pupil in de gaten te houden.

"Laten we kijken of Haas hem onder controle kan houden en of hij het allemaal gaat begrijpen. Hij staat nu veel meer in de aandacht dan bij de de opstapklasses naar de Formule 1", vervolgde Salo.

Salo waarschuwt Mazepin om geen gekke fouten te maken, want hij ligt onder een vergrootglas in de Formule 1.

Salo: "Je kunt hier niets doen zonder dat mensen het merken."

Ik weet het even niet meer, maar Mazepin reed in de Mercedes toch best prima tijden? Ook al is het de beste auto, je moet het wel even doen.
Ik kan het ook helemaal mis hebben overigens.
