George Russell vreest voor vasthouden P9: "Ocon was snel en Sainz was zelfs nog sneller"

Als er ooit iemand is geweest die een bitterzoet gevoel over zal hebben gehouden aan een toptienfinish in een race, zal dat George Russell vandaag zijn geweest. De Brit besloot zijn tweede opeenvolgende kwalificatie in de top tien en zal blij zijn dat het ook eindelijk gelukt is om in een racesetting in de toptien te finishen. Desondanks leverde zijn eerste toptienfinish nog steeds niet die felbegeerde punten op aangezien tijdens de sprintkwalificatie, alleen de topdrie punten kon scoren. Russell zal dus aan de bak moeten om zondag dan eindelijk zijn eerste punten in een Williams te pakken.

De Brit moest na de sprintkwalificatie toegeven dat hij alles had moeten geven om die P9 binnen te slepen: "We moeten tevreden zijn met dit resultaat. Het was van begin tot einde volgas, maar morgen zal het niet makkelijk worden. Pas na 17 ronden waren de banden echt op de limiet, dus morgen zal het voor iedereen lastig worden om de banden te sparen. Ocon was snel en zat constant in mijn DRS, Sainz was nog sneller en zat steeds in zijn DRS, dus ik wil eigenlijk nog iets meer snelheid."

Toen Russell erop gewezen werd dat toch ook veel fans hem aanmoedigen antwoordde hij bescheiden: "Het is geweldig op zo'n speciale plek voor mij en we hebben het publiek veel te lang moeten missen. Hopelijk blijft het publiek welkom. Het is mooi om te zien dat ze ook mij supporten en ik ga er alles aan doen om ze morgen een mooi resultaat te bezorgen."

Was een fout van Russell mijn inziens en ik snap niet dat hij zo ongelofelijk gehyped wordt met name door Olav Mol en de anderen bij Ziggo.
Hij is snel over 1 ronde maar in de race heb ik hem nog geen bijzondere dingen zien doen, eerst morgen maar eens punt(en) scoren.

Sainz gaf alle ruimte aan Russell in een bocht waar je echt niet helemaal naar buiten hoeft te gaan om snel te zijn. Russell tikte Sainz aan op het achterwiel en haalde zelf de bocht maar nauwelijks, dat zou eigenlijk een straf moeten zijn.

  Mijn sympathie ligt veel meer bij Norris als bij Russell maar dat is persoonlijk.
  Komt ook o.a. door zijn clash met Bottas eerder dit seizoen toen hij zo tekeer ging terwijl hij zelf fout zat.
  En ja, hij rijdt in een Williams maar ook die is dit jaar stukken beter geworden dan de laatste jaren.

  @Tifoso-01 ik snap het ook niet. Komt vast doordat die Engelse denken dat hij de beste uitvinding is sinds het gesneden brood, net als het Engels voetbal elftal afgelopen EK, en we zagen hoe dat afliep.
