Sergio Perez start definitief vanuit de pitstraat tijdens Britse Grand Prix

De grote verliezer van de eerste F1 sprintkwalificatie gisteren was zonder enige twijfel Sergio Perez. De Mexicaan had zich vrijdagavond nog als vijfde gekwalificeerd, maar nadat Perez bij de start al plekken verloor aan Lando Norris en Fernando Alonso, ging Checo bij het uitkomen van Chapel te vroeg op het gas. De RB16B spinde het beeld uit en leek aanvankelijk in de muur te zijn geklapt, maar uit de onboard beelden later bleek dat de schade beperkt was gebleven.

Perez was wel teruggevallen naar de negentiende plek en had last van ernstige vibraties. Enkele ronden voor het einde besloot Red Bull de auto alsnog de pits in te roepen en zo werd Perez de enige uitvaller in deze sprintrace. Dit gaf het Oostenrijkse team de mogelijkheid om enkele onderdelen ongestraft te vervangen. Echter bleek na het checken van de auto dat ook enkele onderdelen van de hybridemotor vervangen moesten worden, waardoor een start vanuit de pitstraat verplicht was.

Dat de Mexicaan een inhaalrace moest gaan rijden stond al vast, maar nu zal hij dus ook bij de start weinig plekken goed kunnen maken. Dit terwijl Perez een goed resultaat hard nodig heeft, nadat hij in beide races in Oostenrijk ook al weinig indruk wist te maken door op grote achterstand van teamgenoot Verstappen als vierde en zesde te eindigen. De Mexicaan zal, dus gebrand zijn op een goed resultaat later vanmiddag.

Hij zou met de RB pace en start op de harde band toch wel P5/P6 moeten kunnen halen.

  Dat kan nog lastig worden. Perez zat na 4,5 rondje al weer 14 seconden achter Verstappen. Natuurlijk zat Perez vast achter Norris. Maar deze race gaat hij achter nog wat meer coureurs vast zitten. En Perez kon ook in die eerste 4,5 ronden nooit drukken zetten op Norris.
  
  Ik zie Perez niet zomaar voorbij de McLarens en de Ferrari's komen deze race. Als er niks geks gebeurt heb je het dan al over P8.

Lijkt er toch wel op dat Perez niet kan accepteren dat hij niet in de buurt van Max komt. Daardoor probeert hij te overcompenseren waardoor hij onnodige fouten maakt.

  Krijg een beetje het 1994 gevoel dit seizoen.
  De Benetton in handen van Schumacher was het kampioenswaardige wagen,maar Letho en Verstappen konden er vrij weinig mee.
  Dat zie je nu ook bij de RB al enige tijd.

  De snelste pitsop maken zit diep in het DNA van de sport, het is echt zwaar bezopen dat ze hier een minimumtijd aan vast gaan hangen.
