Rosberg: "Verstappen moet kampioenschap in het achterhoofd houden"

Nico Rosberg vindt dat Max Verstappen zich sterk opstelt sinds die dramatische Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië. Verstappen likte zijn spreekwoordelijke wonden en wil vooral vooruit kijken. Zo bleek ook wel toen Verstappen nogal geërgerd was na de zoveelste vraag over de crash op Silverstone.

Nico Rosberg praat toch graag nog even door over dat moment. De voormalig Mercedes-coureur is dan ook analist op de Duitse TV.

Rosberg analyseert: "Max heeft alles redelijk correct gedaan. Natuurlijk is hij altijd hyper agressief. Dat is duidelijk. Als hij dan verder gaat aan iemand anders Als je een coureur raakt die ook nog eens heel agressief is, dan is de kans op een aanrijding erg groot."

"Briljant"

Rosberg vond het "briljant" hoe Verstappen de verdediging voordat Hamilton hem raakte in Copse.

"Hij rijdt naar het midden - net genoeg dat Lewis er niet omheen kan en duwt Lewis dan zo ver naar binnen dat hij op de vuile lijn moet komen en een zeer ongewoon scherpe hoek voor de bocht heeft. Bovendien heeft Verstappen nog genoeg tijd om naar buiten te trekken zodat hij de grotere radius heeft en veel meer snelheid in de bocht kan nemen", analyseert Rosberg het ongeval. Rosberg ziet het als een klassiek race-ongeluk. "Dat is nu net het resultaat als beide coureurs tot het uiterste gaan en elkaar hyper agressief bevechten."

"Hamilton heeft zijn lesje wel geleerd"

Rosberg gaat verder: "Max laat geen ruimte voor fouten, zit absoluut op de limiet. Lewis heeft zijn lesje geleerd en is extra conservatief, gaat te ver naar binnen. Het brengt hem wat verder naar buiten dan normaal en dat leidt tot contact. Het is een spel over millimeters, wanneer deze twee elkaar tot het uiterste bevechten. Helaas ging het op het gevaarlijkste deel van de baan mis. "

De spanning is om te snijden in het kampioenschap Formule 1. Rosberg denkt dat Verstappen zich meer op de lange termijn moet richten. "Max moet in de toekomst misschien wat meer in zijn achterhoofd hebben dat hij strijdt voor het wereldkampioenschap. Want dat is nu een heel andere situatie voor hem."

Precies Max en RB zouden eens wat intelligenter en in dienst van het kampioenschap kunnen gaan rijden dan hun energie in gejank en het als een doldrieste stier alles maar willen winnen willen steken.

Ik dacht echt dat Max dat sinds 2020 heeft geleerd, echter is het toch wat anders rijden wanneer je sporadisch kunt winnen zonder kampioenschapskansen dan wanneer je een competitieve wagen hebt. Op basis daarvan denk ik dat het kampioenschap dit jaar te vroeg voor Max komt. Ongekende pure snelheid, nu nog even het hoofd polijsten.

Max heeft de WK-titel niet alleen in zijn achterhoofd maar in heel zijn hoofd Nico.

Dat meldt hij ook al heel het seizoen, maar dat wil niet zeggen dat hij situaties als op Silverstone altijd kunt voorkomen.

Max kon niet verwachten dat zijn concurrent, die een buitengewoon begaafde coureur is, zo’n fout zou maken.

Heb het Sky commentaar geluisterd tijdens de race. Het was af en toe moeilijk om Nico te verstaan, zo ver zat hij met z'n hoofd in het achterwerk van Shumilton. F1TV is echt tenenkrommend aan het worden.

Beetje lastig om het kampioenschap in je achterhoofd te houden als Mercedes elke race in jouw auto crasht. Hoe is dit in godsnaam mogelijk zoveel oneerlijkheid en zo weinig bestraffing.
