Mick Schumacher vindt zichzelf "gemiddeld" presteren in debuutseizoen in F1

Mick Schumacher is slim genoeg om zichzelf geen cijfer te willen geven, terwijl teamgenoot Nikita Mazepin dat eerder wel over zichzelf deed. Mick Schumacher vindt over zichzelf wel dat hij tijdens zijn eerste seizoenshelft als rookie in de Formule 1 "gemiddeld" presteert.

Crashes

Tijdens de kwalificatie in de Grand Prix van Hongarije crashte Schumacher hard van de baan, waarmee hij zijn monteurs een druk weekend bezorgde. Zij konden de auto niet op tijd klaar krijgen voor de kwalificatie, omdat Schumacher de bolide geheel afschreef tijdens de derde vrije training na een crash met een klap van zo'n 30G. Ook in Monaco reed Schumacher schade, tot frustratie van teambaas.

Zeldzame uitbrander teambaas Steiner

Begin deze week kreeg Mick een uitbrander van zijn baas Guenther Steiner. Volgens de Haas-baas was het nu allemaal wel erg duur aan het worden met al die schade. Vooral Mick Schumacher liet het afweten, terwijl Mazepin zich volgens Steiner de laatste tijd voorbeeldig gedraagt.

Dat schoot Mick's oom Ralf Schumacher in het verkeerde keelgat. De kritiek op de golf de crashes van de laatste tijd had Steiner niet op deze wijze moeten aanpakken, meent Ralf.

"Excuses baas aan coureur nodig"

"Ik hoop alleen dat hij zijn excuses heeft aangeboden aan Mick", zei Ralf tegen Sky Deutschland die kennelijk meent dat Steiner zijn coureurs niet publiekelijk mag terecht wijzen. Ralf Schumacher: "Deze openbare uitspraken over zijn coureur, zonder hem vooraf te hebben gesproken, zijn een absolute no-go en heeft niets te maken met coureurs-management - vooral bij jonge mensen."

"Gemiddeld"

Ondanks alles lijkt het er niet perse op dat Mick Schumacher het erg met zijn Haas-teambaas oneens is. Als de 22-jarige Mick van Bild Zeiting de vraag krijgt hoe hij zichzelf tot nu toe zou beoordelen voor zijn eerste seizoenshelft in 2021, zegt de jonge Duitser: "Ik denk dat het gemiddeld was."

Hij vervolgt: "Ik ben niet helemaal tevreden met hoe de eerste helft is verlopen, maar dat hoort ook gewoon bij het debuutseizoen. Mijn doel is natuurlijk om altijd mijn best te doen, maar ik heb nog werk te doen."

David en Goliath, Schumacher en Verstappen 2.0

Schumacher is echter wel trots op zijn prestaties tijdens de Hongaarse Grand Prix, toen hij zelfs een tijdje kon vechten met de gehavende Red Bull van Max Verstappen. De twee vochtend, in navolging van hun beider vaders in 2001 ook deden op een opdrogende baan in Maleisië, een 'David en Goliath' gevecht met wiel-aan-wiel gevechten waarbij Schumacher zich niet zomaar gewonnen gaf.

"Dat was heel leerzaam", beaamt Mick.

"Het was heel goed voor ons om in dat duel te staan, te voelen hoe het is om midden in zo'n gevecht te staan en je eigen positie te verdedigen", verklaart Mick met een twinkeling in zijn ogen, meldt de Duitse krant.

Ralf gaat nu alle teambaasjes af om hen ook billenkoek te geven, want inmiddels heeft iemand hem wel verteld dat bijna alle teambazen van tijd tot tijd zoiets doen.

  Het hardnekkige gerucht, in het begin van zijn F1 carriere, was dat de Schumacher met de gele helm, niet zo van de vrouwtjes hield.
  Wie weet gaat hij nu incognito alle teambazen billenkoekjes geven.

  Wat heeft dat te maken met zijn rijders kwaliteiten ?
  Iedereen kan zien dat hij veel fouten maakt waarvan het merendeel onnodig is, vandaar de uitbrander van zijn team-baas.
  Ome Ralph kan zich beter er buiten houden, met dit soort commentaar maakt hij het er niet makkelijker voor Mick.

  Dan krijgt Ron Dennis een klein hard plassertje achter zijn geraniums. Papa kon hij niet krijgen, maar zoonlief Schumacher rijdt dan wel voor "zijn" team.
  
  Overigens op joeptjoep is er nog wel een filmpje te vinden waar Dennis Schumacher probeert over te halen om naar McLaren te komen, tijdens een Hugo Boss evenement in 1993.
