Ferrari-baas Binotto over Mick Schumacher: "Eerste seizoen moet leerjaar zijn zonder druk"

Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto heeft zich in de Italiaanse sportkrant La Gazzetta dello Sport uitgelaten over de zoon van de grote Michael Schumacher. Mick Schumacher rijdt dit jaar zijn eerste seizoen in de Formule 1, maar tijdens de zomervakantie is het nog altijd niet duidelijk waar Schumacher volgend seizoen zal rijden in de Formule 1.

Schumacher behoort tot de jeugdopleiding van de Ferrari Academy. Binotto zegt in de Italiaanse krant: "Het eerste seizoen van Mick Schumacher dient als een leerervaring, zonder druk, en we praten met Haas om dat te bevestigen."

"Schumacher volgend jaar weer bij Haas"

Er wordt volop gespeculeerd over een overstap naar Alfa Romeo volgend seizoen. Zowel Haas als Alfa Romeo worden voortgedreven door Ferrari-motoren. Haas-teambaas Güenther Steiner zegt er het volste vertrouwen in te hebben dat de jonge Duitser ook volgend seizoen in de Haas-bolide rijdt. Tegen RTL Deutschland zegt Steiner: "Op dit moment lijkt het erop dat we volgend jaar met hetzelfde rijdersduo rijden. We moeten nog een paar details uitkristalliseren, maar over het algemeen is alles duidelijk."

Schumacher stelselmatig sneller dan teamgenoot

Mick Schumacher zou goed liggen binnen het team van Haas, waar hij dit jaar voortdurend zijn teamgenoot Nikita Mazepin weet te verslaan. Toch kreeg Mick Schumacher na de Hongaarse Grand Prix stevige kritiek van teambaas Steiner. De Haas-teambaas waarschuwt dat het geld niet oneindig is en dat er dus minder crashes gemaakt moeten worden. Schumacher schreef zijn bolide af door in de derde vrije training op de Hungaroring op hoge snelheid van de baan te vliegen. Daarna was het voor zijn monteurs niet meer mogelijk om de bolide op tijd klaar te krijgen voor de kwalificatie.

Tijdens de race reed Mick Schumacher zichzelf sterk in de kijker tijdens een gevecht met Max Verstappen. De Duitse Haas-coureur gaf zich niet zo snel gewonnen, maar hij kon uiteindelijk niet voorkomen dat de Nederlander hem inhaalde. Max Verstappen reed in een zwaar gehavende Red Bull, nadat hij in de eerste bocht van de baan werd getikt nadat Valtteri Bottas zijn rempunt had gemist.

Na de Hongaarse Grand Prix kreeg Mick Schumacehr een uitzonderlijke uitbrander van Haas-teambaas Guenther Steiner.

  Als er over Max iets gezegd wordt, was Jos dan ook de aanleiding, denk je? Binotto heeft gewoon gelijk. En als Mick op termijn niet deugd, is dat geen ramp en zal hij vertrekken. Probeer maar eens te tippen aan zo'n vader. Daar heeft Max alvast een voordeel mee. Ik weet niet of jij een Max-supporter bent, maar hij komt hier toch geregeld ter sprake. Dus, zeker niet persoonlijk.

  Ik ben absoluut geen Max supporter. Sterker nog ik ben een Hamilton supporter met voorliefde voor het team uit Maranello. Binotto heeft zeker gelijk. Het was meer een sneer naar Ralf die zich overal mee bemoeit.
