Haas weet nog niet hoe snel Schumacher echt is

Halverwege het seizoen is er nog maar één team dat met lege handen staat. Het puntloze team is natuurlijk Haas, wat een zeer moeilijk seizoen doormaakt. En dan hebben ze ook nog eens twee debutanten achter het stuur zitten waarvan de ene indruk maakt (Schumacher) en de andere brokken (Mazepin).

Maar toch is het moeilijk te zeggen wie de snelste van de twee is. Als je alleen naar de cijfers kijkt zie je dat de Duitser beduidend beter presteert maar bij het team zelf weten ze nog niet hoe hard de coureurs kunnen gaan. In gesprek met The Race laat Schumachers race engineer Gary Gannon zich hierover uit: "We kunnen niet echt oordelen over de ultieme snelheid van onze coureurs omdat de auto moeilijk te besturen is."

Het is wel duidelijk dat de coureurs met een moeilijke wagen te maken hebben. Vaak schiet er een Haas van de baan en zeker niet altijd is dat de schuld van de coureur. Het is soms lastig te zien maar volgens Gannon maakt Schumacher wel stappen: "Silverstone, bijvoorbeeld. Het was niet zaligmakend als je kijkt naar onze positie, maar hij (Schumacher) verbeterde zich elke run. Dus als hij elke run steeds sneller is en geen grote fouten maakt haalt hij het beste uit de auto."

Een punt waar Haas wel zeker over is, is de werklust van Schumacher. Ook Gannon is dat opgevallen: "Omdat Mick zo goed is in studeren en het maken van zijn huiswerk maakt hij grote stappen als je hem nog een kans geeft als hij een foutje heeft gemaakt of wij hem niet de goede aero balans hebben gegeven."

Alles valt of staat met hoe Haas volgend jaar het seizoen begint. Dit jaar werd geslachtofferd om volgend jaar goed te kunnen beginnen. Beide rijders zullen blijven en daarmee zullen zij dus, mag men vanuit gaan, de beginnersfoutjes niet meer maken.
Ik ben erg benieuwd. Maar ik vrees dat Haas ook volgend jaar weinig potten zal breken en dat het daarna dus over en uit is voor het team.

Of er is nog heel veel ruimte voor verbetering bij de coureur en het kost hem te veel tijd om zijn ritme te vinden.

Het is soms een beter teken wanneer een coureur misschien net iets minder consistent is en slechts wat kleine foutjes maakt want dat geeft aan dat de coureur de limiet van de wagen weet te vinden.

Bottas verbetert zich meestal ook iedere run, maar dat is nou een typisch voorbeeld van een coureur die na heel veel rondjes rijden een kunstje kan herhalen om een snelle tijd neer te zetten. Als het op racen aankomt is Bottas echter 1 van de allerslechtste coureurs van het veld.

Hebben de Schumachers toch goed werk gedaan, zoveel geld etc. en toch een goede werk ethiek. Dat lukt echt niet elke ouder. Plus geeft het mogelijk ook aan waarom hij toch vaker in 2e seizoenen echt duidelijk stappen maakte. Hij is misschien niet de meest natuurlijk begenadigde rijders, maar zeker niet slecht en dan met wil, inzet en intelligentie kan je vaak verder komen dan met alleen talent.

Aan de Haas is sinds de start van het seizoen niks meer verbeterd. Alle ballen op 2022. Dan kan je onmogelijk iets verwachten van Mick en Nikita. Gewoon rijden met dat hok en meters maken, dat is het enige wat telt dit jaar.

"Dus als hij elke run steeds sneller is en geen grote fouten maakt haalt hij het beste uit de auto."" Die stelling klopt dus voor geen meter. Het enige wat je daarmee kan stellen is dat hij progressie maakt en leert uit z'n fouten, al dan niet door hints van het team.

Hij is niet snel, hij heeft mazzel dat-ie Schumacher heet, Ferrari protegé is en in potentie een sponsormagneet. Maar dan zal hij wel wat moeten laten zien, en dat doet-ie nog steeds niet.
