Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren-teambaas en tevens voorzitter van teamverbond FOTA, is zeer gelukkig met de nieuwe motorformule voor de Formule 1. Vanaf 2014 zal de koningsklasse van de autosport met 1,6 liter V6 turbomotoren acteren, in plaats van de 1,6 liter viercilinder turbomotoren die de FIA had voorgesteld. Een hele stap vooruit, zo oordeelt Whitmarsh.
De Brit is vooral blij dat er consensus is bereikt. Ik ben verguld dat alle motorleverancier akkoord zijn gegaan met dit plan, wat zeer positief is. De teams hebben ingestemd. De nieuwe formule werd enthousiast onthaald in de Formule 1 Commissie. Voorheen was er verdeeldheid en het is positief dat we unanieme goedkeuring van alle partijen voor deze motor hebben ontvangen.
Op de lange termijn is het zaak voor de Formule 1 om zichzelf aantrekkelijk te houden voor automobielfabrikanten. Zij zullen dan op basis van prioriteiten en wensen om de zoveel tijd in en uit de sport stappen. Zo is dat altijd geweest. Ik hoop dat autofabrikanten het nieuwe aanbod relevant, interessant en stimulerend genoeg vinden en zich aan de Formule 1 verbinden.

Hopelijk gaan ze niet ineens over een jaar 180 graden draaien en ineens met een heel ander mening komen...

ik vraag me af wat pure hiervan gaat vinden. die waren namelijk al vergevorderd met de ontwikkeling van de 4-cilinder-in-rij motor. ik heb namelijk niet het gevoel dat zij er ook bij waren en hebben toegejuicht.

Pure is geen F1team maar alleen een bouwer...zie het maar als een inschrijving die je kunt doen en het beste idee/ontwerp wordt eruit gehaald. Geen stem recht dus, ondernemen is een risico.

Volgens mij lees ik hier tussen de regels dat McLaren in 2014 met een compleet inhouse ontwikkelde auto + motor op de grid staat.

Sterker nog, er stond een heel mooi plausibel stukje op Joe Sawards Blog:

Odd though it might seem, PURE could be a good option. Behind Craig Pollock lurks the French government, which is keen to snuffle up as much new technology as can be developed by its boffins in the Val de Silicone to the south-west of Paris, where there is a serious cluster of high technology companies such as Airbus and Snecma, which sounds like a nasty sneezing accident, but is actually a topline engine company, which grew out of the splendidly-named Gnome & Rhone company. Snecma was merged with electronics firm Sagem a few years ago to create the fragrantly-named Safran. Also in the area is the Renault Technocentre and the vast CEA nuclear research centre at Saclay, not to mention Renault Sport F1, Citroen Sport and ONERA (the Office National dEtudes et de Recherches Aérospatiales) at Meudon where they design rockets and such things.
Given this amount of brainpower and a few intelligent hirings, PURE should be able to produce a decent engine and this can be badged by any of the customers, so it could be that McLaren will look to PURE as an interim stage before moving on to its own engines in the mid-term.
Group Lotus might also like the idea of this route and any new manufacturer might also like to hide behind such a project, as Mercedes did with Ilmor 20 years ago.\"

Mooi en helder stuk, dank je voor posten :) ... Heb je overigens de nieuwe MP4-12C chroom gezien? Gebruikt voor de opening van McLaren\'s eerste shop in London. Wat een auto, geweldig mooi.
