Beitske Visser over haar seizoen in W-Series: "Nogal dramatisch"

Autocoureur Beitske Visser draait niet om de hete brij heen. Tot nu toe is haar seizoen in de W Series voor vrouwen nogal "dramatisch".

‘’Ik kan het simpel omschrijven als dramatisch.’’ Afgelopen weekend strompelde ze uit haar wrak na de horrocrash bovenop de Raidillon op Spa-Francorchamps. Ze moest een nachtje in het ziekenhuis blijven en hield wonderwel geen ernstige verwondingen over aan de crash. Ondanks dat haar lichaam de nodige blauwe plekken heeft zit ze dit weekend gewoon weer achter het stuurwiel op Zandvoort tijdens de Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. Daar zal ze voor het ogen van de 70.000 fans proberen zo goed mogelijk te presteren in de W Series.

"Ik mag niet klagen, het had heel slecht kunnen aflopen. Ik heb veel geluk gehad, want ik heb niets gebroken. Ik heb wel nog steeds pijn in mijn ribben en rug voornamelijk. Gelukkig niet in mijn nek, dat is het belangrijkste."

"Ik krijg nog wel een medische check, maar ik verwacht groen licht. Ik zal wel pijn voelen achter het stuur, maar de motivatie van de thuisrace en de adrenaline zullen me er wel doorheen helpen", vertelt ze tegen het ANP.

In het voorprogramma van de F1 is er veel aandacht voor de W Series. "De Formule 1 is de hoogste klasse, daar komen de mensen voor kijken. Maar je merkt dat de mensen ook voor ons blijven zitten en hopelijk is dat ook in Zandvoort het geval. Het zal door Max Verstappen wel een gekkenhuis worden en ik kijk er enorm naar uit. Dit is mijn hoogtepunt van het jaar.’’

Vorig jaar werd Visser tweede in de serie. Dit jaar had ze graag voor de titel gegaan, maar ze staat momenteel negende.

‘’Ik kan de titel wel uit mijn hoofd zetten. In de eerste race lag ik derde en werd ik van de baan gereden, daarna kreeg ik te maken met motorische problemen. Het leek erop dat in Spa die problemen waren opgelost, maar door die crash doet die motor het ook niet meer. Er wordt nu een compleet nieuwe auto voor mij opgebouwd. Ik hoop dat Zandvoort de ommekeer wordt en er een einde komt aan al die tegenslag."

Leuke serie van moedige meiden.
Gun het ze van harte dat er meer media belangstelling voor gaat komen met dito sponsoren. Alleen dan kan het circus echt van de grond komen.
