Dit zijn de banden die Pirelli meegenomen heeft naar GP Zandvoort

De teams en coureurs hebben de beschikking over de C1, de C2 en de C3 banden van Pirelli tijdens de Nederlandse Grand Prix van 2021 op Zandvoort.

Titelrivalen Lewis Hamilton en Max Verstappen staan slechts drie punten uit elkaar in het kampioenschap, maar het is Verstappen's thuisrace dit weekend en dus zal er zal zeker een "Orange Army" aanwezig zijn dat hem vanaf de tribunes aanmoedigt.

Omdat de snelle, hellende bochten 3 en 14 steiler zijn dan de hellingshoek van de kombochten op Indianapolis Motor Speedway, heeft Pirelli de drie hardste compounds meegenomen voor de Grand Prix op Zandvoort. Alle teams hebben twee sets C1 (hards), drie sets C2 (mediums) en acht sets C3 (softs) tot hun beschikking.

Pirelli's hoofd van F1 en Car Racing Mario Isola zei: "De Nederlandse Grand Prix is duidelijk een nieuwe uitdaging, maar dankzij de gegevens die door de Formule 1 en de teams zijn verstrekt, hebben we een bandennominatie en voorschriften kunnen bedenken die nauw aansluiten op wat wij van deze opwindende nieuwe locatie verwachten."

Het wordt dus zaak voor de teams om zo snel mogelijk de baan te verkennen als morgen de lichten doven aan het einde van de pitstraat. De teams zullen data verzamelen die zij nodig gaan hebben bij het afstellen van de auto, maar ook bij het bepalen van hun strategie voor de race.

Volgens Pirelli is het een gegeven dat de baan behoorlijk veel vragen van de banden. De bandenfabrikant heeft met computersimulaties al 'getest' op een digitale variant van Zandvoort.

Ook er al er enige ervaring met het circuit, vertelt de bandenmaker in hun vooruitblik op het komende raceweekend. "We hebben dit jaar al op Zandvoort geracet in de GT World Challenge en ook dit heeft ons nuttige informatie opgeleverd."

Pirelli wijst ook op mogelijke uitdagingen die het racen in de duinen met zich meebrengen. De grip wordt beïnvloed als er zand op de baan waait, stelt de Italiaanse bandenmaker.

Zand op de baan waait ? Noorden wind, windkracht 2 maar goed je kan je verhaal alvast maar klaar hebben.

  Toch wel een gemiste kans van Pirelli dit. Die oranje band is helemaal geen gek idee eigenlijk.

  @Felipe: Gemiste kans, inderdaad. Ik heb horen fluisteren dat men deze versie de bernHARDE compound wilde noemen, maar dat mocht niet i.v.m. copyright issues...

Zandvoort was altijd een bandenvreter 20 jaar geleden en een circuit wat meer camber eist dan de meeste circuits.
20 jaar geleden was meer camber vinden dan de concurrentie op zandvoort in cupraces een winning move.
Ik ben benieuwd of de nieuwe asfalt laag en de lay-out nogsteeds rubber vreten als een malle

Ben benieuwd naar de strategieën dit weekend, volgens mij wordt dit het kortste bezoek aan de pitstraat van de gehele kalender, hopelijk wat meer stops daardoor en wat verschillende tactieken (al zal dit door de beperkte inhaalmogelijkheden meevallen).
