Complimenten voor vertrekkende Räikkönen

Gister kwam het grote nieuws naar buiten: Kimi Räikkönen stopt na dit seizoen met de Formule 1. De ervaren Fin hangt dan op zijn 42ste zijn helm definitief aan de wilgen. De enkelvoudig wereldkampioen maakte veel indruk in zijn carrière.

De Fin krijgt veel complimenten van prominenten uit de sport. De kampioen van 2007 heeft er bijna twintig jaar in de koningsklasse opzitten en liet op zijn eigen manier de harten van vele fans sneller kloppen. Op de site van de Formule 1 gaat CEO Stefano Domenicali dieper in op het vertrek van 'The Iceman': "Kimi is een geweldig onderdeel van onze sport, een persoonlijke vriend en een echte kampioen. Ik had het privilege dat ik met hem mocht werken bij Ferrari en weet wat voor fantastisch persoon hij is. We zullen hem en zijn unieke stijl missen."

Räikkönen debuteerde in 2001 bij het team van Sauber om in 2002 over te stappen naar McLaren. De Fin kende enkele succesvolle jaren in Britse dienst om in 2007 de overstap te maken naar Ferrari. In dat jaar werd hij gelijk kampioen en is tot de dag van vandaag de laatste Ferrari-kampioen. Hij bestuurde de rode bolide tot 2009. In 2010 en 2011 reed hij geen Formule 1 en zagen we de Fin rally's rijden en nam hij ook deel aan een paar NASCAR races. In 2012 beleefde hij een succesvolle comeback bij het team van Lotus. In 2014 stapte hij weer over naar Ferrari waarna hij in 2019 naar Alfa Romeo vertrok.

Ook zijn huidig teambaas Frederic Vasseur is complimenteus over de Fin: "Er is geen andere coureur zoals Kimi." Räikkönen wist 21 keer een Grand Prix te winnen en stond 103 keer op het podium.

In zijn McLaren dagen een bloedsnelle rijder die te vaak pech had. Anders was hij aldaar wel wereldkampioen geworden.
Echter bij Ferrari oogde hij mij altijd als lui. Zowel in zijn eerste stint als in zijn tweede.
Ik ben nooit fan van hem geweest, maar rijden kon hij wel. Pärjäilkää Kimi!

Een F1 kampioen én de laatste Ferrari wereldkampioen.
Topgozer, maar het is inmiddels klaar. Mooi om na dit seizoen te stoppen, voordat de nieuwe auto's hun intrede volgend jaar doen. Tijd voor andere leuke dingen voor Kimi.

  In Italie wordt hij echt op handen gedragen! weergaloos populair, erg mooi want zo warmbloedig is Kimi niet ;-) wellicht wel als ie aan de Vodka heeft gezeten whahahahha

  Beerkuh; logisch, laatste Ferrari kampioen. En als je het maar een beetje goed in en Ferrari hebt gedaan ben je daar eeuwig een held. vind ik ook wel mooi...

  Zelfs in 2007 vond ik hem al iets minder goed dan zijn McLaren jaren. Bij McLaren vouwde hij Montoya ook gewoon helemaal op.

  Precies ook mijn gedachte @Damon. Ik denk dat, qua pure snelheid, er geen rijder was die zo snel was als Kimi in zijn McLaren dagen.
