Nicholas Latifi kijkt uit naar vierde seizoen als Williams F1-coueur: "Williams juiste plek voor mij"

Nicholas Latifi komt ook in 2022 voor het team van Williams uit in de Formule 1, het wordt het vierde seizoen voor de Canadees in de Williams. Tijdens de Hongaarse Grand Prix wist Latifi zeven punten te scoren voor Williams. Het team staat momenteel achtste in het constructeurskampioenschap en lijkt dit jaar grote stappen vooruit te hebben gemaakt.

Latifi laat weten dat hij "verheugd" is met de bekendmaking dat hij ook in 2022 uitkomt voor het legendarische team uit Grove. “Ik ben verheugd om nog een jaar bij Williams te blijven; deels vanwege de nieuwe technische reglementen van de F1, maar ook omdat het team zich in een meer competitieve richting beweegt met nieuwe eigenaren, nieuw management en nieuwe mensen aan de technische kant."

Latifi zegt zich als een vis in het water te voelen het blauw-witte Williams F1-team. “Ik voel mij hier thuis sinds de dag dat ik aankwam, en ik denk dat ik op de juiste plek ben om door te gaan met mijn positieve traject. Het doel is om door te gaan met het maken van kleine verbeteringen, zodat we volgend jaar allemaal kunnen profiteren van de kans die we hebben. Ik ben super enthousiast om met de auto van volgend jaar te werken en het is als een nieuwe start voor iedereen. Ik voel mij bevoorrecht om deel uit te maken van die verandering.”

Volgens het lovende persbericht op de website van het team heeft Latifi bijgedragen aan de stappen vooruit die het team de laatste tijd lijkt te maken. "Nicholas bleef ondertussen indruk maken in zijn eerste drie seizoenen bij Williams en droeg bij aan de verbeterde prestaties van het team met zijn gedetailleerde feedback en gemotiveerde aanpak", zo valt te lezen in het ronkend persbericht op de website van het team.

Ben ik nou gek of reed Russell het eerste jaar niet tegen Kubica, en kwam Latifi het jaar erop in zijn plaats?Dat wilt dan toch zeggen dat dit het 3de jaar wordt voor Latifi bij Williams...

  Latifi was in 2019 testrijder bij Williams dus in die zin klopt het wel dat volgend jaar zijn vierde seizoen in de formule 1 wordt. Alleen niet als racecoureur.

Aan de ene kant snap ik de negatieve kant richting Latifi, maar bekijkt het ook eens anders.
Waarom houdt Williams hem binnenboort ondanks dat er genoeg keuze is, ook keuze met geld? Volgens mij omdat hij het helemaal niet zo slecht doet als in eerste instantie werd aangenomen. Tuurlijk, hij is niet de beste op de grid, maar om hem nu slecht te noemen.
Ik snap Williams wel: hij brengt geld mee, en is redelijk constant en stabiel. En met stabiel bedoel ik ook financieel, wat zorgt voor rust binnen de organisatie.

Conclusie is wel dat Williams volgend seizoen met een marge paydriver zit opgescheept die niet of nauwelijks iets heeft gewonnen in het verleden en een afdankertje van RB.

Had Williams (en @Beri) iets veel beters gegund.
