Wolff heel erg blij: "Het was goed in elke sector"

De vrijdagavond verliep voor Mercedes naar behoren. Valtteri Bottas pakte de eerste startplaats voor de sprintkwalificatie terwijl Lewis Hamilton op minimaal verschil de tweede plaats wist te veroveren. Teambaas Toto Wolff is uitermate te vrede met het resultaat.

Na de kwalificatie stond Wolff voor de microfoon van Sky Sports: "Het was goed in elke sector. Ik denk dat Max zijn auto overtrof. Hij kreeg alles voor elkaar in een rondje. In dat opzicht zijn we blij met het resultaat."

De succesvolle kwalificatie op de historische gronden van Monza gaf Wolff het gevoel van jaren terug. Voor de camera liet hij zich daarover uit: "Over de radio zeiden we tegen elkaar, het is net zo mooi als vroeger. Mooi om daar weer aan te denken." Morgen zullen zijn coureurs van de eerste startrij vertrekken in de sprintkwalificatie. Zondag zal dat niet het geval zijn aangezien Bottas een nieuwe motor heeft gekregen en dus in de race achteraan moet starten.
