Masi: "Als kwalificatie vandaag niet kan verplaatsen we hem naar morgenochtend"

De regenval in Sotsji gooit het Formule 1-programma vooralsnog aan diggelen. De derde vrije training werd afgelast en ook de Formule 2-coureurs konden eerder op de ochtend iets anders gaan bedenken om hun tijd mee te vullen. Race Director Michael Masi stond de pers te woord om de plannen voor de kwalificatie uit de doeken te doen.

In een kletsnat Sotsji stelde Masi de situatie vast: "Zoals we deze ochtend kunnen zien gaat het weer heen en weer als een soort yoyo. De regen is ook alleen maar intenser geworden met zelfs wat gedonder." Rond de tijd dat de Formule 2 van start zou gaan was er zelfs bliksem zichtbaar.

Masi weet dat de kwalificatie misschien in het gedrang kan komen door het weer. Maar toch zal er alles aan gedaan worden om vandaag te kwalificeren: "We zien op de weersvoorspelling dat het regent tot 13:30-14:30 lokale tijd en dat het dan afneemt in de middag. De prioriteit is vandaag natuurlijk de Formule 1 kwalificatie. Dus de Formule 1 heeft voorrang."

Dan moet de sport ook nog rekening gaan houden met het daglicht. Masi is zich hier ook bewust van: "De bepaalde factor vanmiddag zal het licht zijn. Zonsondergang is vandaag rond 18:15 lokale tijd. Maar met weer als dit zal dit waarschijnlijk eerder het geval zijn."

Als er niets anders op zit zal de kwalificatie een dagje worden opgeschoven. Masi: "Als de kwalificatie vandaag niet door kan gaan ,zoals we al een paar keer eerder hebben gezien in het verleden, zullen we het programma overhoop gooien en de kwalificatie op zondagmorgen rijden."

  Idd dit slaat nergens op. Wel meermaals racen met een orkaan in de buurt en niet kwalificeren met een stevige bui... heel conservatief.
  
  Ik vind dit ook een grote f×ck uou naar de weekend tickeds en de enkel zaterdag tickethouders... gewoon 0 waar voor je geld.

  Bij Ziggo lieten ze als tijdvulling nog even een samenvatting van Brazilië 2016 zien. Viel mij op dat Vettel letterlijk het zelfde zei als op Spa dit jaar. Als het aan Vettel had gelegen was Brazilië 2016 nooit uitgereden en hadden we de mooiste (of een van de mooiste) inhaalrace ooit nooit gezien. Het is idd allemaal te soft
