Red Bull Racing zinspeelt op contractverlenging met Renault

Het team van Red Bull Racing wil Renault als motorleverancier aan zich binden voor het tijdperk met de nieuwe 1,6 liter V6 turbomotor. De Franse autofabrikant is al jaren partner van de Oostenrijkse renstal en ondanks enkele kritische noten over de kracht van de V8 van Renault hebben de successen van de afgelopen jaren Red Bull Racing overtuigd van de kwaliteit van de krachtbron.

Red Bull-baas Dietrich Mateschitz vertrouwde Autosport toe: We proberen altijd geassocieerd te worden met een grote autofabrikant en Renault is onze eerste keus voor een contract voor 2013 en de jaren daarna. Red Bull-motorsportadviseur Helmut Marko voegde toe: De onderhandelingen over een nieuwe verbintenis waren reeds vergevorderd onder de aanname dat we met 1,6 liter viercilinder turbomotoren zouden rijden. De situatie is nu veranderd, maar we hebben positieve signalen van Renault ontvangen over de 1,6 liter V6 turbo. We moeten de details nog verder uitwerken.

Het gerucht ging ook dat Red Bull Racing overwoog om een motor in eigen beheer te maken, met het Oostenrijkse bedrijf AVL List als mogelijke partner. Mateschitz sluit dat echter uit, tenzij geen enkele autofabrikant met Red Bull Racing in zee wil. Marko: Ik acht AVL List in staat om een Formule 1-motor te bouwen, maar dan wel met versterkingen op enkele afdelingen.

zou toch geweldig zijn als geen enkele motor leverancier met Redbull in zee wil.. en vervolgens bouwen ze zelf de beste motor :D

Ze kunnen niet anders, geen enkele andere leverancier is beschikbaar, of wil zich beschikbaar stellen, en zelf ontwikkelen is zelfs voor een team als red Bull toch echt te duur.

  idd, Ferrari wil niet leveren aan Redbull, Mercedes kan Redbull niet leveren door Mclaren, omdat die dan al helemaal bang zijn dat ze het niet meer bij kunnen houden
