Pirelli met zachtere banden naar Turkije

De vorige editie van de Turkse Grand Prix was een soort dancing on ice met Formule 1-bolides. Niet alleen was Istanbul Park glad door hevige regenval, ook het nieuwe asfalt zorgde voor de nodige schuivers. Bandenleverancier Pirelli speelt nu in op de mogelijk gladde omstandigheden.

Pirelli heeft namelijk besloten om de zachtere C2, C3 en C4 compounds mee te brengen naar Istanboel. Hiermee houden ze rekening met de mogelijkheid dat het nog steeds glad is. Pirelli-bons Mario Isola laat in een persbericht weten rekening te houden met de gladheid: "Dat is waarom we dit jaar hebben gekozen om zachtere banden mee te nemen. Ook omdat de race een maand eerder plaatsvindt want waarschijnlijk zal zorgen voor hogere temperaturen."

In de tussentijd is de baan in Turkije aangepakt met een soort ingenieus waterstraalsysteem waardoor de baan nu minder gladjes zal zijn. Isola is hiervan op de hoogte: "Dit zou moeten lijden tot meer ruwheid en meer grip. Ook is het mogelijk dat met de zachtere compounds we te maken krijgen met hogere slijtageniveau's in vergelijking met vorig jaar."

    Wellicht blijft het bandenslijtage niveau gelijk aan vorig jaar of zelfs beter. Als je minder glijdt, slijt het ook minder.
