Mazepin over Istanbul Park: "Layout is nogal speciaal"

Nikita Mazepin mocht vandaag voor het eerst proeven aan het Turkse asfalt. De Russische Haas-piloot beleefde een spannende middag met een goeie spin in de tweede vrije training. Mede daardoor kwam hij beide sessies niet voorbij zijn teamgenoot. Sterker nog hij joeg het hele veld voor hem uit en zette twee keer de twintigste tijd.

Na afloop keek hij op de site van het team nog even terug op zijn eerste Turkse vrijdag: "Het was heel interessant aangezien ik als rookie naar één van weinige circuits in Europa ging waar ik nog nooit had gereden. Ik wist niet precies wat ik moest verwachten. Wat ik hoorde van andere coureurs en wat ik las op social media is dat het heel moeilijk is om hier te rijden."

Toch heeft Mazepin een vermakelijk vrijdag achter de rug. Hij merkte wat voor baan het was: "Toen ik voor de eerste keer de baan opstuurde merkte ik dat de grip verbeterd was. De layout is heel speciaal. Het is nogal vloeiend dus je moet in een ritme komen, dat was leuk. Ik denk dat het voor een goed weekend kan zorgen."
