Bandenallocatie voor Duitsland en Hongarije ook bekend

Bandenleverancier Pirelli heeft de zachte en de medium band toegewezen voor de Grand Prix van Duitsland en de superzachte en zachte band geselecteerd voor de Grand Prix van Hongarije. Eerder werd al duidelijk dat de coureurs en teams bij de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië de zachte en de harde compound tot hun beschikking krijgen.

Pirelli-motorsportbaas Paul Hembery: Er is de laatste tijd veel gezegd over de banden voor Silverstone. Nadat we de nieuwe harde band hadden geïntroduceerd in Spanje wilden we van de gelegenheid gebruik maken om de medium band uit te proberen. Die testten we in Canada en in Valencia werd die band ingezet voor de race. Dat was om de teams en onszelf meer begrip over het gedrag van die band onder race-omstandigheden te geven.

Silverstone is een van de lastigste circuits van het jaar. Het asfalt is ruw, het wegdek is een onbekende factor omdat een deel is vervangen bij de bouw van het nieuwe pit- en paddockcomplex en voor de bandenleverancier is het waarschijnlijk een van de grootste uitdagingen van het seizoen. Engeland heeft ook heel variabel weer. Eerder deze week was het dertig graden, vandaag maar 15 graden. Het is een hele opgave om banden te leveren die onder al die omstandigheden goed functioneren en daarom bieden we ook de zachte band aan in het geval van koelere temperaturen.
