Actie Vettel verbaasde Webber: "Hij zocht altijd een proefkonijn"

Regen zorgt vaak voor onvoorspelbare en spectaculaire races in de Formule 1. De Turkse Grand Prix was een kletsnatte editie en stond dan ook bol van bijzondere momenten. De meest verrassende actie van vorige week was dan ook de dappere bandengok van Sebastian Vettel. De Duitser wisselde naar slicks en dat kwam hem duur te staan.

De Aston Martin-coureur moest direct weer naar binnen om terug te wisselen naar inters. Zijn voormalige Red Bull-teamgenoot Mark Webber was verbaasd. In de F1 Nation Podcast spreekt hij zich uit: "Ik vond het eigenlijk wel leuk omdat hij dit normaal nooit deed. Hij maakte nooit de eerste beslissing. Hij keek altijd naar iemand die als proefkonijn diende. Hij probeerde iets ongelooflijks nu. Ik geen idee wat hij dacht."

Het viel Webber dan ook op dat de beslissing veel belangrijker was voor Vettel dan voor het team: "Het team heeft die paar puntjes nodig maar Vettel maakt dat niets uit. Hij wil grote successen. Maar de droge lijn was zo dun dat inhalen onmogelijk was. Het was een dappere beslissing maar binnen 15 seconden was het duidelijk. Complimenten voor de poging."

      Ongelofelijk dat mensen zich na zoveel jaar blijven irriteren aan een persoon. Ik snap Vettel heel goed, stel het pakte geweldig uit kun je zo maar veel plaatsen winnen en dikke punten scoren. Het risico om dat puntje te verliezen die ze toen hadden is echt wel te verwaarlozen tegenover wat het op kon leveren.

      naar aanleiding van jullie comments heb ik het artikel nóg maar eens gelezen, ik kan weinig ontdekken wat duidt op oud zeer. Geen idee wat voor verkeerds Webber zegt over Seb..

      Het is een beetje tussen de regels door lezen. Eigenlijk zegt Webber indirect dat hij en anderen het eerst mochten laten zien, alvorens Vettel dit deed. Dat hij dit nooit zelf durfde te beslissen en dus onzeker was.

      Ook de laatste alinea zin over Vettel en het team. Ik lees dat gewoon alsof Vettel alleen aan zichzelf denkt en nooit aan het team.

      Als iemand zegt dat je altijd een proefkonijn zoekt i.p.v. zelf een keer initiatief te nemen deel je gewoon een sneer uit tussen de regels door. Alleen het woord proefkonijn al haha. Complimenten voor de poging lijkt me ook cynisch als je kijkt naar het feit dat iedereen zei dat slicks never nooit zouden werken.

      @LimboF1; ik vind het volkomen normaal dat Vettel, in de jaren dat hij vooraan reed nooit als eerste dit soort keuzes maakte en dat wel doet als ie P8/9 ligt. Vooraan heb je alles te verliezen en P8/9 en verder eigenlijk alleen maar te winnen. Stel het had goed uitgepakt; dan had ie serieuze kans op podium gehad. Het is hetzelfde wat Hamilton deed; overwegen door te rijden in Turkije had ie niet eens overwogen als ie vooraan had gereden.

    Beter een slechte beslissing, dan geen beslissing. Als je je verantwoordelijkheid neemt dan gaat het soms ook mis. Op p3 had hij dat nooit gedaan, halverwege het veld doe je dat. Gevalletje risk - reward.
