Mercedes en Petronas ontkennen Aramco-gerucht

In 2010 maakte Mercedes na tientallen jaren zijn comeback in de Formule 1. Als sinds het prille begin van de comeback worden ze trouw gesteund door hun sponsor Petronas. Dit weekend kwam het nieuws naar buiten dat de wegen van Mercedes en de Maleisische oliegiganten zouden scheiden. Maar de betrokkenen ontkennen in alle toonaarden.

Volgens meerdere bronnen zou Mercedes afscheid nemen van van Petronas en in zee gaan met de Saoedische oliemaatschappij Aramco. Het bedrijf uit Saoedi-Arabië is ook één van de hoofdsponsors van de Formule 1 dus zo gek zou de move ook weer niet zijn.

Mercedes en Petronas verwijzen het gerucht nu naar het rijk der fabelen. In een statement spreken de twee zich uit: "Petronas en Mercedes zijn al partners sinds 2010 in een langdurig samenwerkingsverband dat wederzijds voordelig is voor beide partijen. Vorig jaar hebben we onze overeenkomst verlengd met een nieuwe langdurige cyclus en we zijn er trots op dat we verder kunnen gaan met onze geavanceerde prestaties."

      Niet altijd @RCM, Brandstofleveranciers zijn strategische partners die met speciaal ontwikkelde brandstof extra peekaatjes uit het blokje halen. En overgaan op een nieuwe partner terwijl de F1 op bio wil overstappen is een zeker risico.
