Russell is PR-optredens liever kwijt dat rijk: "Ik ben racecoureur en ik wil gewoon racen"

Formule 1-coureurs zijn eigenlijk veel meer dan coureurs. Ze zijn tegenwoordig  immers ook lopende PR-zuilen en moeten elk raceweekend ontelbare keren voor de camera's van de internationale pers verschijnen. Veel coureurs willen maar één ding: racen. Zo ook George Russell.

De jonge Russell is tegenover het Britse medium The Independent goudeerlijk. De Williams-piloot spreekt zich uit: "Ik ben een racecoureur en ik wil gewoon racen. Als ik heel arrogant was zou dat alles zijn wat ik doe. Maar er komt natuurlijk nog veel meer bij kijken."

Publieke spreker

Russell begrijpt heus wel dat het erbij hoort maar hij is er geen megafan van: "De sponsorevenementen zijn een groot onderdeel van mijn werk want we kunnen niet racen zonder partners en sponsors. Maar ik ben opgeleid als racecoureur en niet als publieke spreker."

Geboren

Langzamerhand is het zo gegroeid dat men het heel normaal vindt dat de coureurs van alle markten thuis zijn. Russell beaamd dat: "Je bent op een bepaalde manier geboren om in een race auto te zitten. Niet om voor een camera te staan. Maar we zijn nu op een niveau waar er van je wordt verwacht dat je het allebei doet."

Dat is dan ook weer niet zo. Alsof je aan zo een sport begint heb je nog niet het idee dat je de top gaat halen en in de F1 uitkomt. En tot de F1 valt het media gedoe allemaal wel mee.       maar dat is eigenbelang. Hij wil gewoon graag ff wat dames ( of iets in die geest ) op bezoek hebben. En op Insta hangen nu eenmaal veel van die losbollen rond. xD

    Niet zeuren. Dat weet je als je hieraan begint en daar krijg je ook heel goed betaald voor. Ik vind ook niet alles in mijn werk even leuk.

Hij geeft gewoon zijn mening, jij mag toch ook je mening geven dat niet alles op je werk even leuk is. Vind je jezelf dan ook een zeur?

      Uiteraard hoort het er allemaal bij. Maar ik zou ook knettergek worden van al die gasten die telkens dezelfde vragen stellen, en die je dan telkens weer leuk lachend te woord moet staan. Het liefst zou ik ze dan ook allemaal een kopstoot geven, en lekker rustagh met m'n hengeltje aan de Ijssel gaan zitten ;)

      Dat is het. Het is niet zo dat ze 1 interview op een dag doen, ze doen er misschien wel 20. En dan worden er 20 keer dezelfde vragen gesteld waarvan 10 nergens op slaan en die moet je dan 20 keer beantwoorden. Alleen het poppetje met de microfoon verandert, voor de rest is het gewoon 20 keer hetzelfde riedeltje.

      Mwa bij de supermarkt moet je ook moet je ook leuk lachen naar mensen en domme vragen beantwoorden.

      Neem de voordelen en de nadelen that is it. Over een aantal jaar ben je financieel onafhankelijk en hoeft niemand meer wat van je te weten.
