Hülkenberg verlegt zijn blik: F1 gaat niet lukken, IndyCar beste alternatief"

Het Formule 1-avontuur lijkt er definitief op te zitten voor Nico Hülkenberg. De sympathieke Duitser heeft naar alle waarschijnlijkheid ook in 2022 geen zitje in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Binnenkort kruipt hij dan ook achter het stuur van een IndyCar voor een test.

Tegenwoordig is Hülkenberg veelvuldig te horen als co-commentator bij het Oostenrijkse ServusTV. Het is al weer eventjes geleden dat hij achter het stuur van een raceauto zat. Zijn laatste echte race was zijn invalbeurt bij Racing Point in Duitsland vorig jaar. Het was voorlopig zijn laatste van zijn 182 Formule 1-deelnames.

Last minute invalbeurt

Tegenover Motorsport.com reageert hij op zijn terugkeer achter het stuur: "Natuurlijk heb ik er zin in om weer te gaan racen. Ik heb denk ik al een jaar niet meer geracet. Die last minute invalbeurt op de Nurburgring was de laatste."

Singel seaters

De realistische Duitser denk dat hij het spelletje nog lang en breed niet verleerd is: "Ik heb er zin in en mijn gevoel zegt dat ik nog wat goede rondjes in mijn rechtervoet heb. Het draait nu vooral om de auto leren kennen. Ik heb de laatste paar races gekeken en mijn hart ligt bij single seaters. Waarschijnlijk gaat de Formule 1 niet lukken en dan moet je kijken naar het beste alternatief en de IndyCar is zeker interessant."

Grosjean en Ericsson doen het daar ook gewoon heel goed, dus dan zou de Hulk het zeker ook wel moeten redden Indy cars.
