Gasly keert terug op succesvolle grond: "Heel belangrijk moment voor mij"

Aankomend weekend staat de Braziliaanse Grand Prix weer op de kalender. Door de pandemie ging de race vorig jaar niet door maar nu mogen de heren coureurs zich weer opmaken voor een heftig potje sturen op Interlagos. Pierre Gasly keert terug op een voor hem zeer belangrijk circuit, hij pakte er in 2019 op spectaculaire wijze zijn eerste podium.

Gasly vond zichzelf toen in de absolute slotfase van de race terug op de tweede plaats. Hij hield de jagende Lewis Hamilton van zich af in een bizar spannend sprintduel tot de streep.

Podium

Op de site van zijn team AlphaTauri kijkt hij terug: "De laatste keer dat we in Brazilië reden finishte ik als tweede. Het was mijn eerste podium en een heel belangrijk moment voor mij. Vooral de manier waarop het gebeurde was heel speciaal, met de sprint naar de lijn met Lewis vanaf de laatste bocht."

Technisch

Gasly is wel op zijn hoede. Hij kent de geheimen van de Braziliaanse baan: "Het circuit houdt je bezig. Het gaat tegen de klok in en zelfs de rechte stukken zijn niet recht. Je hebt altijd wat te doen in de cockpit en de baan is zeer technisch."
