Daniel Ricciardo valt uit na issue met motor: "Volgend weekend weer een kans"

Nadat Lando Norris een lekke band opliep na zijn aanvarinkje en ontwijkende actie met Sainz, richt alle hoop van McLaren zich op Daniel Ricciardo. Het team is in een stevige strijd verwikkeld om de derde plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap. Ferrari wist tijdens de laatste races behoorlijk in te lopen en voorbij te komen aan McLaren in de voorlopige WK-stand.

Terwijl het rode team ook tijdens de Braziliaanse Grand Prix sterk presteert, wordt het oranje McLaren uit Woking getroffen door malheur. Wanneer Norris met een lekke band langzaam terug moet rijden naar zijn team, knokt Ricciardo met Pierre Gasly achter de Ferrari's. Ricciardo haalt uiteindelijk de streep uiteindelijk niet vanwege problemen in de krachtbron: DNF achter de naam van de Australiër. Norris vecht zich nog terug naa de tiende stek en verzamelt dan ook slechts een schamel puntje. De Ferrari's komen als vijfde en zesde over de streep en verdubbelen hun voorsprong op McLaren.

Ricciardo legt na afloop uit: "Ik ging okay! Wij gingen voorwaarts bij de start, en dat was na zaterdag zeker een van de doelen. Ik was niet blij met hoe die sprint uitpakte voor mij, dus ik was vastberaden om het beter te doen. Wij konden goed vechten. Ocon haalde mij met een goede manoeuvre tijdens het begin van de race in en ik wist die positie terug te pakken met eigenlijk dezelfde inhaalactie, dus dat voelde allemaal goed."

"Daarna knokte ik met Gasly en ook met de Ferrari's. Wij wisten dat zij allebei op een twee-stopper zouden doen. Ik denk dat zij net iets sneller waren, maar misschien hadden wij ze een beetje kunnen verstoren met strategie. Maar toen was er verlies van vermogen en moest ik uitvallen. Dat is absoluut jammer, maar het gaf wel meer perspectief dan zaterdag. Wij moeten de positieve dingen meenemen en volgende week krijgen we weer een kans.”

Valt mij op dat vrijwel iedereen met mercedes krachtbron door diezelfde krachtbron is uitgevallen of in de race is geassisteerd zoals russell maar hamilton nog niet en zelfs volgens mij de minste ice heeft vervangen...gewoon apart

  Norris is er niet helemaal meer bij. Mentale opdoffer gehad en heeft naar eigen zeggen een 'droevig' kantje... Jammer, want een sterke racer als hij in topvorm is. Ik twijfel weer aan hem...

  alleen talent maakt je nog geen goede coureur, het gaat om het totaal pakket. Norris vind ik erg grillig. Als mentale kwesties zo'n impact hebben op zijn presteren dan is het zaak om dat zo snel mogelijk onder controle te krijgen.
  Ook Ricciardo is dit jaar grillig. De McLaren line-up is veelbelovend. Maar over een heel seizoen sterk presteren moet er nog uitkomen

Wel toevallig. McLaren houdt een hele race Hamilton op een paar races geleden. En pats boem weg is de snelheid van McLaren.

McLaren heeft een scheurtje in het chassis van de MCL35M-bolide van Daniel Ricciardo ontdekt. Het was de directe aanleiding van de uitvalbeurt van de Australiër in de Grand Prix van Brazilië.

"We hadden op de baan een verlies van vermogen”, vertelde McLaren-teambaas Andreas Seidl. “Aanvankelijk vonden we een technisch probleem, een scheurtje in het chassis bij de power unit. Daar doen we nu verder onderzoek naar. Ik kan volgende week in Qatar meer duidelijkheid geven"
