Shovlin heeft dubbele gevoelens in Qatar: "Valtteri had dan weer een zware dag"

Lewis Hamilton bezorgde Mercedes in Qatar alweer een belangrijke zege in de strijd om het wereldkampioenschap. Maar het Duitse team moest ook een tik incasseren aangezien Valtteri Bottas de strijd moest staken op het Losail International Circuit. Het zorgde voor een dubbel gevoel bij het team.

Ook topengineer Andrew Shovlin deelt deze gevoelens. In een persbericht van zijn team spreekt hij zich uit: "Het was een allegaartje vandaag. Aan de ene kant liet Lewis zien wat hij met de auto kan doen op zaterdag en zondag. Zijn marge in de kwalificatie was indrukwekkend en in de race moest hij alleen maar doen wat nodig was om het gat te bewaken."

Teammaat Bottas kende echter een belabberde avond. De Fin viel uit en had een klapband. Shovlin baalt er van: "Valtteri had dan weer een zware dag. We dachten dat hij op P5 aan de schone kant mocht starten. Maar toen we naar de grid vertrokken kwam er een document binnen en kregen we een gridstraf, hierdoor stonden we verder naar achteren aan de vieze kant."
