De slotfase van de Grand Prix van Qatar zat bomvol actie. Valtteri Bottas, Nicholas Latifi en George Russell kregen alle drie te maken met plotselinge lekke banden. De scherpe kerbs speelden een rol bij de ploffende Pirelli's en dat overrompelde de coureurs.

Williams-coureur Russell zag zijn voorband leeglopen. Tegenover de officiële website van de Formule 1 komt hij met tekst en uitleg: "We hadden vandaag een agressieve strategie en we probeerden zo lang mogelijk door te gaan in onze laatste stint. Met de snelle bochten naar rechts op dit circuit zouden de banden altijd tot de limiet worden gepusht. Maar we moesten agressief zijn in het duel met Alfa Romeo."

In de absolute slotfase van de race begaf de voorband van Russell het waardoor hij slechts als zeventiende over de lijn kwam. De Brit haalt zijn schouders op: "Jammer genoeg kregen we een paar ronde voor het einde linksvoor een lekke band. Het is jammer dat onze race zo eindigt maar uiteindelijk hebben we niets gewonnen maar ook niets verloren. Onze rivalen scoorden immers ook geen punten."

Wel mooi dat achteraan daar ook fel wordt gestreden hoewel dit niet altijd in de "spotlight" staat.
