Robert Kubica ook in 2022 reserve bij Alfa Romeo

In 2019 keerde Robert Kubica terug in de Formule 1 na een lang traject van herstellen van zijn rally-ongeluk en andere projecten. De Pool kreeg in 2020 geen racezitje en is sindsdien de reserverijder van Alfa Romeo. In die hoedanigheid stapte hij in Zandvoort en Monza dan ook in de auto toen Kimi Räikkönen positief testte op corona.

Het was even onduidelijk of Kubica ook in 2022 nog verbonden zou zijn aan het team van Alfa Romeo. Aan die onduidelijkheid is nu een einde gekomen want vandaag is duidelijk geworden dat Kubica gewoon reservecoureur van het team blijft.

Het aanblijven van de Pool zorgt er ook voor dat hoofdsponsor Orlen volgend jaar binnenboord blijft bij het Zwitserse team. Verder verandert er veel bij het team in 2022. Huidige coureurs Räikkönen en Antonio Giovinazzi zijn bezig aan hun laatste dagen als Alfa-coureurs en worden volgend jaar vervangen door Valtteri Bottas en Guanyu Zhou.
