Enkelvoudig Formule 1-coureur Aitken gaat IndyCar testen

Steeds meer coureurs die geen plekje in de Formule 1 kunnen vinden kiezen voor een Amerikaans avontuur. In navolging van onder andere Nico Hülkenberg gaat nu ook Jack Aitken een IndyCar-test uitvoeren. De Britse enkelvoudig Formule 1-coureur gaat een test rijden voor Ed Carpenter Racing.

Aitken debuteerde vorig jaar bij de Grand Prix van Sakhir in de Formule 1. Hij verving bij Williams George Russell, die op zijn beurt weer Lewis Hamilton verving bij Mercedes. Aitken reed daarna in de GT's en raakte zwaar geblesseerd bij een crash op Spa.

Hij is inmiddels weer hersteld en zal maandag achter het stuur kruipen van de IndyCar op het circuit van Sebring. Volgens Motorsport.com is het een evaluatie en heeft hij nog geen contract ondertekent. Aitken zal daarna weer snel naar Abu Dhabi vliegen want hij mag de eerste vrije training daar gaan rijden voor het team van Williams.
